A great Athletic article on our youth recruitment in London (copied from the other site): Saturday afternoon in the north London postcode of N22: on White Hart Lane a steady stream of fans make t

Superb article from The Athletic published today... Gives you a real sense that something special is being built. We've been crying out for this for so long.   Michael Walker 2h ago  2

The Times interview today with Chuba. I’ve missed all the pics out as I don’t know how to get the whole article across and it’s behind a firewall, but you get a good feeling of what he thinks.

Steve Gibson, man shilling out 10s of millions every year of his own money so Middlesbrough can have a good football team

True, but how can he justify charging more than most teams in this league, and more than some premier league sides, when we are a small club in one of the poorest parts of the country. Especially after the season we have had

He's not spending tens of millions of his own money every year but he is spending millions of our money every year and if what we saw last season was supposed to be a good football team then I'd rather he didn't spend anything at all quite frankly.  At least his BFF came out of it with plenty of dosh in his pocket so it was certainly good from his point of view.  If you gamble money and lose it does seem right that you are the one footing the bill rather than everyone else and it's weird that he gets plaudits for it.  I think he's mental for owning a football club but if you choose to make that commitment then that's your decision and nobody is forcing you into it.  He doesn't get a free pass because he's wasted lots of his own money as well as lots of ours.  The ticket prices at this football are disgraceful and putting the prices up on the back of last season was a pathetic decision from the club.  There's no justification for it, they've just absolutely buggered up the last couple of years on and off the pitch and they know it.

Early bird or no early bird the walk in prices are absurd and it would be interesting to know the percentage of those who do get to a match are not local to Boro anymore. The associated costs can make the trip very expensive.

Make the trip attractive so the costs are not ott especially if bringing passengers

The business part of the club knew exactly What they did, when putting early bird offers out, with a dark threatening cloud of Pulis still hovering above the Riverside.

They calculated that many wouldnt buy the "cheap(er)"  early bird season card but later buy the much more expensive "late" bird season card = more moneys ££££

My 2 cents, the club gave the best price to the fans willing to support the team club early and renrw regardless of manager.

They constantly repeated the best prices were the early bird prices.

Generally we don't sell many season tickets after the early bird offer, so the new prices are closer to walk up prices, rather than the old season ticket prices.

On the plus side, if you buy at these prices, your renewal next season may be cheaper.

The club have you over a barrel you either buy a season ticket or you are close to being priced out of going to the game.

That's fine until the season ticket numbers start to dwindle, once people have gone it's hard to see them rushing back and paying £30+ for a walkup ticket unless the team are flying.

We've apparently lost 25% of our season ticket holders from last season which should be a concern for the club in my opinion.

TBF, after the last couple of seasons, the club was probably expecting to lose a lot of season ticket holders anyway, so that was probably in mind when increasing the price to try and balance it out. Given what most have said in response to their fan surveys when not renewing (going by on here anyway), the price was a much less significant factor than the manager so it doesn't seem like they were far wrong. In expecting to lose a large percentage anyway, they'd want to try and ensure they made up some of those losses through a price increase, in the hope that an extra £23+ wouldn't sway the 'hardcore customers'. And as mentioned before, the post-early bird period was always going to see a huge hike for anyone who did want to come back and it seems that also worked as there are probably a few of those lost in early-bird who will look to renew now that Pulis is gone and the club is talking the talk that people want to hear.

Who said it was okay? I'm just saying what their thinking might have been. It's hardly 'okay' for them to have been charging what they have been for a long time for the consumer, if we're talking value for money. But they have been and they're hardly going to stop doing that if it works, are they?

What happened to you?  You used to be cool, Wilson. ?
