I'm sure Monk said that he benched players because he wanted to see how they'd react?

I think Monk was trying to be too clever and with players it just didnt work out obviously.

I still think if we would have continued with a 4 3 3 with Monk we would have gone up.

So much firepower with Britt, Bamford and Braithwaite..but again mismanagement costs us.

A great Athletic article on our youth recruitment in London (copied from the other site): Saturday afternoon in the north London postcode of N22: on White Hart Lane a steady stream of fans make t

Superb article from The Athletic published today... Gives you a real sense that something special is being built. We've been crying out for this for so long.   Michael Walker 2h ago  2

The Times interview today with Chuba. I’ve missed all the pics out as I don’t know how to get the whole article across and it’s behind a firewall, but you get a good feeling of what he thinks.

Monk had the whole 'wants players to think for themselves' thing, which you can half understand as you can only do so much on the pitch as a coach but it actually made it look like he was just negating his own responsibilities. One of the biggest things with Monk too was he came into a job expecting immediate success and yet constantly talked like we were a long term project. There seemed to be a serious mismatch between what the club wanted and what he wanted.

Unless he was some incredible evil mastermind who keeps all his cards strictly close to his chest and nods along like he's game for anything the club wanted, it's frankly quite awful that he got the job in the end. We were always gonna be gambling with the amount we spent but we got so much of that summer wrong.

Leganes have asked for permission to sign a replacement. I suppose we could let them have Gestede for3-4 million.

Just to clarify, do you mean Leganes would pay us £3-4 million for Gestede, or are you thinking we could pay them £3-4 million to take the dozy sod off our hands?

I will say, as much as I dislike Braithwaite, I absolutely understand him leaping at the opportunity to play for Barcelona.

It's the first, and likely only big club he'll play for. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to play for them, even if they release him in the summer.

Twice moving from here to a tiny club like Leganes was not that opportunity.

4 years contract he could be there until he's 32 😄 lift the La Liga title, champions League etc for playing all them 5 mins sub apperenaces if that. Then he can  retire and tell the kids he was world-class played for Barcelona got all these winners medals. He's a funny bloke thought remember when he signed he ate a parmo and put a picture of Juninho on his Instagram .

The article on this site regarding Braithwaite says we could recieve 5 million from the transfer? Where is that from? Sounds very unlikely.

I think that's just the max it could have been had we had the most optimal sell on fee %.

I think the Gazette have said we're getting £2m.

Can’t see him been there long. I read an article that Barcelona have already told he’s agent to find him a new club to goto in the summer.

Bulkhaul is doing well (sorry if already posted):

It should increase our chances of Gibson being in a position to invest this Summer, especially with a new 3 year cycle of FFP starting and with lots of expensive contracts coming to an end.

Unfortunately that is not how FFP works. Gibson as an owner can only invest so much under the rules of FFP, it used to be £8 Million, but I haven't been able to find any upto date figures relating to this.

FFP is a continuous 3 year rolling cycle. Not a 3 year period that ends then starts again after 3 years. For example for this season (2019/2020) we are being judged on the past 2 seasons (2017/2018 & 2018/2019) and this current season. In the summer the cycle continues but we will be judged on 2018/2019 & 2019/2020 plus the new current season of 2020/2021. If that makes sense?

We will have to get our resident expert @DanFromDownSouth on to this so he can simplify it into plain English for the rest of us.

Thanks in advance Dan 👍

I'll happily go through the accounts, but do know some members would rather read about watching paint dry! 😴

So maybe when they are finally released someone can create a thread for it? 😉
