A great Athletic article on our youth recruitment in London (copied from the other site): Saturday afternoon in the north London postcode of N22: on White Hart Lane a steady stream of fans make t

Superb article from The Athletic published today... Gives you a real sense that something special is being built. We've been crying out for this for so long.   Michael Walker 2h ago  2

The Times interview today with Chuba. I’ve missed all the pics out as I don’t know how to get the whole article across and it’s behind a firewall, but you get a good feeling of what he thinks.

Everyone, take 11 minutes out of your day (let's face it, you've all got nothing better to do) and just enjoy this:

As someone who missed so much of Juninho's time at the Boro, I've always wondered how most felt about him leaving after us reaching Europe? Like, beyond the love and desire to see Juninho play in Europe for us, was it the right time for him to move on? My understanding was it was an unpopular decision but would it have been purely sentimental to keep him around?

I'd have kept him, my personal opinion is that McClaren treated him like *** and forced him out of the club. Yeah his legs were going a bit but he still had lots to offer.

I was so happy when he came back for the 3rd time, delighted when he was able to celebrate success with the league cup. As much as I have a love/hate relationship with McClaren, it definitely hit absolute rock bottom when he forced him out to Celtic. Juninho could definitely have contributed more to the team for another season or 2.

It's a big shame for me as I would have loved to see him link up with Viduka and Hasselbaink. He was past his best but I think could have still had a positive impact on the next season.

Yeah it was the right time for him to move on in my opinion.  He was coming to the end of his career and we were trying to move on as a team as well.  The injury he'd had at Atletico had taken some of the zip out of his play anyway even before he came back.  He didn't have that immediate burst of pace that he had in his first spell.  He was still a clever enough player but that wasn't really his game, it was always based around being able to beat players and quick darting movement.  He wasn't really someone for sitting in pockets of space pinging balls around and he was never going to be a prolific goal scorer.  Downing was coming through at that point, Zenden and Boateng were about to form a good midfield pairing and we signed Viduka and Hasselbaink.  Juninho could still have been a squad player within that but I don't think he'd have been a regular and I think he moved to Celtic hoping to be a regular starter for a bit longer.

100% agree @Denzel Zanzibar. I was gutted he went. Whether he would have made the starting 11 is one thing but definitly had plenty to offer. What hurt me more is that it was Ray Parlour we bought to seemingly replace him.

Just catching up on some Gazette articles and it seems picture with the out of contract players is become a bit clearer if Gazette are to be believed

Set to stay: Howson & Friend

Club want to stay: Ayala

Set to leave: Shotton Clayton Johnson & Rudy

I think Ayala staying really is 50/50 at moment.

Why would we want Friend to stay, He was a brilliant player, now he cannot play three games on the spin.

Gazette seem to be suggesting club and JW want him to stay given his influence around the place.

I should have added the above post was not my own prediction of who will stay or go but more what Gazette are seemingly suggesting.

It's just slightly odd to me that despite being short of money we want to keep someone at the club for his influence when he clearly isn't good enough anymore. But I suppose if the money is right and Friend wants to wind down it would be a decent move, but I can't help but think the money could be spent better ie. on a genuine qualified coach for the first team.

Just to reiterate what i heard and posted on here from the summer regarding backroom staff approaches.

We offered Steve Round coaching role and he wasn't interested as he wanted either Assistant managers role or Director of football role.

Real shame if you ask me because of his football knowledge and contacts hes gathered at some of the top clubs in the Premiership could of been critical for us.

Looks like Ayala is off in the summer regardless, I have no inside information on this but to me it makes sense because the club are very confident that Ben Gibson will end up a boro player.

Last i heard Burnley still owe us over half the money for Gibson (Sold for £15million) and we will waiver that and add some money to get him back (undisclosed i would imagine).

The stupidety at the club never ceases to amaze me. If we are ready to waiver 7,5 million and even top it to get a defender back who hasn't played for two years I'm ready to give up on the club ever being properly run. We will forever be a club run on emotions rather than common sense and it will hold us back. That signing has all the hallmarks of Downing mk.2. We will probably even make him the leagues top earner and to make it happen the rest of our signings will be scraps from league 1.
