Excellent read, I sometimes wish these analysis' would focus more on his entire time as manager rather than just this season though- it kind of gives the impression that the problem is new and that as a result, Warnock could turn it around. The truth is, we've played the exact same poor football since the day he walked in and other teams have been wise to it since about the 7th game of last season.

Great find that is, excellent read. It is worrying that a non professional makes some really interesting posts but NW fails to see what the problems are or won’t change the setup. I really hope Payero is back soon!
Humpty 3,260
The vast majority of those points have been covered on this board or fmttm. I note the Jonny Howson one has flown under the radar somewhat mind, particularly hiding from the ball. Might keep an eye on that one in the future.

Yeah I think the difference is that this is a neutral viewer giving these assessments without an agenda. Lets face it, we are all too close to it and emotionally invested to give a fully neutral view.
TeaCider24 12,631
I don't really disagree with too much of it, but I'd question how much of a detailed opinion a neutral can actually have after spending a day watching Middlesbrough clips and stats (going through his twitter feed, he loves a stat dump) on his computer/phone. The fact that he's done it in a day at the request of that Boro Breakdown podcast would also imply to me that he'll have went in with preconceived notions gained from them. The comments about Payero and Tavernier in particular stand out to me as something he'll have been told/heard on that podcast and will be why so much of it seems like familiar opinion.

How much time do you think opposition scouts/managers spend watching us, like? On Tavernier, he's said he's our best player. Well statistically we've seen already that adds up, it's been plastered all over how he's our best player this season on that front so I'm not sure why that makes you think he's gone in with bias on that front, it could easily be one or the other. On Payero, how many people on here or anywhere have been making the comparison to Argentinian football? How many people on here watch Argentinian football, let alone grasp the difference in aggression or speed? One or two maybe but it's hard to see how he could develop a preconceived opinion in 5 minutes from somewhere it isn't already really out there. Maybe he's not entirely neutral but he's not a Boro fan, there's plenty of luggage that carries and makes it easy for people like Johns in the Gazette to come out with the crap he has, being spoken about as if we don't have a clue, that we're almost too close to it to even form a logical opinion. I would guess the scouts spend significantly more time than that given it's their job. I mean the comment about playing him in his best position, not the fact he's statistically our best player, he conveniently doesn't actually say where he thinks Tav's best position is just that we play him there. I doubt he watches much more Argentine football than the average Boro fan given he just seems to be a Watford fan in his 20s on Twitter. The very fact that he's giving an opinion on Payero not actually needing time to bed in is proof enough for me that it's a reaction to comments from Boro fans, because purely from watching his performances in the matches (bar a bright cameo against Blackpool in the league) you wouldn't think he was up to speed. Same with the Isaiah Jones is better than Onel Hernandez comment and should be played ahead of him, it makes no sense as a comment from a neutral unless he's already heard Boro fans complaining about the 2 game period where Hernandez played ahead of him. Hernandez played 3 games for us, scoring in one of them, and has been injured for the last 3, Jones has played 10. I'm fine with the criticism of Warnock as I think his time is up and he's doing a bad job, but I think that twitter thread is largely playing to the crowd. The one part I'm not questioning are the comments about Howson because I genuinely think that is something that a neutral would pick up on quite quickly if he watched enough of our recent matches.
