honestly i think this is why we suddenly went out and got doak

I think it was just too good a player to turn down, as he could be a potential game changer and be way too good for this league if he clicks quickly

when someone in that mould comes available I think we are always interested

more likley if we got him as cover its probs because of forss than mcgree

Not seen him play but he sounds an exciting prospect, Klopp raved about him.

Would think he'll be warming the bench for a while but with him & Hamilton on the bench 2 realiy exciting players

It's easy to talk about supporting mental health when you're making £44.5 million post-tax profits per quarter (Kindred Group's own figures for Q2 2024) from people gambling money they may not have or be able to afford. Not all of us can put a flutter on the FA Cup Final and leave it at that.

I'm honestly not a censorious person by nature. I respect people's rights to do as they please, and I'm a big advocate of freedom of speech. Normally. But I really do wish the Government would ban gambling advertising in the UK. Having lived with a gambling addict, I've seen how destructive it is. It's a scourge. For MFC to continue promoting gambling so brazenly, year after year, makes me respect the club a lot less. And I will never, ever buy a replica shirt with gambling sponsorship on it. Being able to buy a sponsor-free shirt at the Club Shop is a token step forward, but shame on Boro for agreeing to yet another two years of being Unibet apologists.

Put it this way - if a football club is obligated to change their sponsor on kids' shirts on moral grounds, their adult shirts shouldn't have that sponsor either. Plenty of teams have the same sponsor on every home and away shirt in their club shops.

Couldn't agree more, I've been personally affected  in the past by a family members addiction.

It's everywhere in Australia, can't avoid gambling ads  even while watching the news here unfortunately, the Government needs to step in more decisively.

Yeah, my understanding on the Doak situation was that Liverpool were looking for a Premier League loan for him, and a couple of clubs were interested, as were Celtic. When those didn't materialise for whatever reason, teams in the Championship were made aware of his availability, and obviously we were the ones he/they chose.
I'm pretty sure that if he'd been a realistic loan signing for Championship clubs earlier, someone would have snapped him up in pre-season

He's pony. Even MLS clubs don't want him.

I don't think thats the case that no one wants him or would give him a chance, but what is his level where that occurs? I bet its a case of no one wants him and to pay him the wage we are paying him, and he's not going to give up because he don't have to, so it rules out every club at that level while he has a contract with us. but even still I feel the club at this point would be willing to cut their losses and get something back instead of nothing (which looks like the likley outcome)

Something don't seem right behind him and the clubs and his relationship for me.

Because if it was good and he wanted to make a go at things, then I don't get why we don't just swallow some costs and loan him out in england somewhere, like league one/two even and pay the shortfall in his wages (if no one else is coming in for him), surley someone at that level would think its worth a punt, and the club would want to try and re-set him, see what he made of, or more likely generate some interest to flog him

and the lack of involving him in anything, makes me think maybe he been refusing loans/move, if I had to pin it on anything maybe there has been a clash/problem with him that started in the wilder days.

I know I would of felt I had been mis-sold joining the club when recruitment would of likely sold him on the move the same say they are selling the club to these other young players, as chance to be a championship player, maybe get a prem player, stepping stone to the next level when the time is right

then the first things ya hear publicly from the manager is him completely dismissing you as a development player and putting you in that place really quickly (which I believe was just to put pressure on the board to give him the players he was clearly asking them for) he had no interest in any players that needed developing and was clearly looking for finished articles only - for a easy job and an instant hit to say look how good I am I got boro promoted.

I would of thought Carrick coming in may of changed that and gave him a fresh chance, but its clear there's a unspoken reason why he hasn't even been involved in anything really, does not feel like he has really been part of the first team.

it would make sense that he could well been frozen out to make him change his mind and accept a move somewhere else so we can recover something for him, and maybe he would rather ride his deal out calling our bluff - unless he can go back home for a season.

the way the club is run I don't think there is any passengers in the first team on his level of wages that would not be used at all, that wouldn't be offered out on loan anywhere we could send them. we would surely take a contribution on his wage and see what happens over paying the whole thing and getting nothing from him and reducing his value as a player as is currently happening.

somethings not right between him and the club, I think both sides likely have a hand in ruining this deal, and the worst thing is he has 2 years left on his deal including this season

Apparently Leicester and Southampton were in for him weren't they? I thought it was more down to the signing of Chiesa. They were planning on keeping Doak in the first team but an opportunity arose to strike a cut-price deal for Chiesa so they made their move and hence Doak became available on loan late in the window.

Possibly. My mate knows loads about Liverpool's academy, and from what he told me, Doak was always going to go on loan this season, and there was a very realistic possibility that it would be Celtic or a PL club, but for whatever reason it didn't happen, to our gain.

Ah fair enough I'm only going off what the gazette was saying the other day. Would be interested to know if he actually had any appetite to go back to Celtic, even if it was only a loan. I thought I remembered him getting a lot of stick when he left them to go to Liverpool.

I guess Liverpool's reasoning was that at Boro he will at least be playing football under Carrick rather than hoofball or backs to the wall at lower level Premiership. He is also likely to get more game time at Boro especially if he is as good as is hoped. At Celtic he would probably have got game time but the level of opposition apart from Rangers is below Championship standard and the likelihood of a run in the Champions League is slim to none given their recent history.

they probs have him back like nothing happened tho, all it would take to forget is a few goals to make the fans not care about that no more,

but footy fans are like our wives at times and never forget anything and always save it to bring it up soon as the goals dry up lol

On our own injury front and looking at MC comments post match it appears following timetable for returns:

1. VDB and Howson: Sunderland or latest Stoke

2. Forss: Looking at returning to matchday squad for maybe WBA or Watford in October before internationals.

3. Fry and Lenihan: After October internationals.

4. Smith: November time

I note there are three u21 games between now and next internationals. Can see Forss being involved in 1 or 2 of them before returning and potentially even one of Fry and Lenihan as last u21 is 5th Oct
