No they didn't but I'm guessing Vossen stayed in touch with a number of our players.

Vossen and Bamford were good friends if I remember correctly, so he may have heard from him. There was also the conflict between Tomlin and Downing when we initially signed him too.

A great Athletic article on our youth recruitment in London (copied from the other site): Saturday afternoon in the north London postcode of N22: on White Hart Lane a steady stream of fans make t

The Times interview today with Chuba. I’ve missed all the pics out as I don’t know how to get the whole article across and it’s behind a firewall, but you get a good feeling of what he thinks.

Superb article from The Athletic published today... Gives you a real sense that something special is being built. We've been crying out for this for so long.   Michael Walker 2h ago  2

I'm the biggest Downing 2nd spell critic ever butttttt I'm going to say a flash in the pan mediocre 1 season Vossen commenting on a bloke who took Boro to a European final is pretty bizarre and shouldn't really even be a thing at all?

Honestly if Clayton or Friend who've been here 14 years between them come out and subtlely comment on Downing I'd take it on board but Vossen what is he even doing it seems bizarre.

See Joe Gibson on the bench for the 23s today he's been brilliant for the 18s not really got beyond a cameo for the 23s yet he might be in for a breakout at that level in the next few months one to watch now Jones has vacated a wing position in the team.

Well he's only really liked a tweet, he hasn't actually gone to town on Downing or anything.

Do people like the length of the contract?

Would have been nice to have an extra year i suppose. Leaves us with next year to develop him then make a choice to invest big into him or sell. Good young talent. Hope they go to a back 4 and Spence and clouson can work on their defensive game.

Depends how much he's on really.

It's long enough to get a good fee if clubs come sniffing, and short enough that he won't be a dead weight if he completely loses form.

I'd sooner have had 3 and a half years, but I'd guess it's his side of the negotiation that kept it shorter.

Excellent news on spence. 1 down and 4 to go imo.

1. Pears: 3yr deal

2. Ayala: 3yr deal

3. Friend: 1or 2yr deal

4. Howson: 2yr deal.

Rudy can go.

Marv and Clayton if terms are right are good squad player but at same time if they leave its no biggie imo. Clayton can be useful in games where u want to keep it tight / nullify oppositions main attacking threat. He did that v well v WBA and funnily enough i think he could be useful v Brentford away this weekend.

I'd be quite happy to pass on Friend and Ayala on a 3 year deal looks a bit dodgy to me if I'm being honest.

3 year deal for Ayala would be too long, Friend at 2 years in also too long, these guys are getting no younger and always injured, time to offer short deals or move them on, they aren't our future, great servants of the club though.
