Well this is a severely under-rated comment.

Well he couldn't cut it as a full back, so he's now a defensive midfielder.

As is congested season is more mid week games than sky have the rights too. So some mid week rounds aren't available. This week is one of these. Swansea next week is on red button

Howson has signed another 1 year extension on his contract.

He's here till the end of 21/22 now. 👍

Good to see we have offered him another year, I personally wouldn't offer him more than that at this stage. Hopefully the new contract is on slightly reduced terms too, would give us a bit more financial wiggle room.

A new contract or the same terms as this one?

Doesn't say.

I'd hope reduced terms but, if not, he's been good so far this season as a midfielder.

If Howson continues to play the deepest of the 3 midfielders, essentially what Clayton used to do, I can easily see him actually getting better over the next couple years. He’s still got great legs for his age, and his performances this season have been pretty much 8/10 every game.

The website story is a little contradictory, the headline is "Howson Signs New Boro Contract" indicating it's a "new" contract.

Then the 2nd paragraph states "by signing an extended contract" which indicates it's simply an extension to his current deal. At least the way I'm reading it is contradictory.

It is encouraging that we are getting contracts sorted a little earlier than usual and that the negotiations are seemingly going smoothly. Hopefully the trend continues, as the last thing we need is a situation where a few players are allowed to see out their contracts and move on without fees like the end of last season. Britt has a big decision to make as he must know he will not get a similar contract from us, so unless he wants to settle for a move to USA or China, he is going to have to be content with lower wages. I think the way the game has changed in the last few years does not suit his style of play. He seems to lack the ball control and work rate that most teams require and is not adept at creating openings for himself, but he may find somewhere that suits him. He seems like a decent lad so good luck to him wherever he ends up (as long as he doesn't come back to haunt us).

Would absolutely love if we could tie down McNair for longer, that'd be the big one for contracts.

If he isn't done by January, you can guarantee that one of the lower Prem teams will make an offer for him, particularly someone like Fulham who are desperate for defensive solidity.

    • Regarding Valdes. Are we really discussing the ability of a goalkeeper who has literally won every trophy possible and clocked up nearly 400 appearances for a team that was probably the best club side seen by an entire generation? The regular and quite ridiculous argument directed at Valdes was he had little to do for Barca such was they dominance. Do people genuinely think to be a keeper at the best club on the planet for as long as he was, that all you need to do is be able stand between two posts? Do people know how hard it is to even become a professional footballer at a half decent level never mind do it at the very elite level for as long as he did and we are discussing if he was a good keeper? Was he as good for as he was Barca? Well obviously not. But no player is going to be as good as for Boro as they would for Barca. You look better with better players around you. That is a simple fact.
    • Depends what you're using really. You shouldn't have any problems using a computer, or laptop which is by far the best option. However, if your using a phone it might not be up to the job, You need at least 4 GBs of ram for a decent stream, so if you're using a phone, it's time to upgrade.
    • Schwarzer was better for my money.
    • I've been watching Boro a bit longer than just Pulis and Woodgate 🙂 But yeah I get what you mean, I'm sure people will enjoy being there, I'm just not that bothered about it myself.
    • Absolutely. Randolph was a great shot stopper but I also think he had his weaknesses, particularly with the ball at his feet, whether playing out from the back or in his kicking and in modern football that's quite a big thing.
