Great quote from Kevin Blackwell in the Athletic today 🤣🤣🤣

It's my birthday today, meant to be my 30th but I've refused to allow that in current circumstances of not being able to celebrate it. I usually get my age on the back of one of my shirts so I re

Warnock says we have offered Fletcher a new contract

Also states Fletcher has decided he does not want to sign it yet and seems to indicate he being influenced by others around him.

So if Fletcher does bad rest season he'll stay. If he does excellent scores goals so we promoted he'll stay. If he does excellent but we just miss out on promotion like lose in playoffs he'll go to a Sheffield United or Westbrom who can pay him 25k+ in wages. Is how I see it

He isn't irreplaceable though.

Nobody in our team is really irreplaceable, I think it comes down to the confidence of people in our recruitment effectively replacing them. We spent a fair chunk of money on Fletcher, way more than we needed to but he's finally started to come good and now is the time we look like we might lose him. I'm afraid every time we lose a player who's doing a good job for us because I've still no faith in us replacing them well.

THink he'll stay. He's 25 now and looking from the outside he's hardly been prolific or a standout player in the Championship. I very much doubt that there is going to be a clamour for his signing and clubs over bidding. He might be offered a slightly better deal elsewhere due to being a free transfer, but I doubt he someone the relegated teams or teams chasing promotion will have as first or second choice. Being first choice here could easily be the most appealing option.

    • Darn..  that means an automatic 300 post deduction and SD singing "Sister Josephine" in Danish every night in your dreams...
    • Of course not but a thin squad to begin with didn't help and having to replace aging crocks with new blood also factors in, are we expecting too much too soon or just not able to face reality. Might have been different if money was coming in, but it isn't and if anything will make it worse, it is people deciding they've had enough. who knows, this time next year we could be celebrating (one way or the other).  The standard lecture to prospective Boro supporters always included the line, "This club will break your heart" and whilst we have been lucky in one way to see success for a while, it is not our right. Things go in cycles, so hopefully we are at the beginning of a new one, but after the last time someone was given the keys to the till, I am prepared to wait it out ..  and if it don't happen, then so be it.
    • Don't want anyone smelling a rat here despite the fact that of the 493 posts so far I have accounted for 485 of them lol!
    • Sorry have to disagree as clearly the "older" managers who are so set in their ways have hampered Boro and allowed us to become a very predictable and easy team to beat. Are we there yet?😏
    • Can't see anything else less than a 12 point deduction for Derby, oh but to wait for a year is so so hard to do!!!
