Nearly everyone is putting AJ.

Adam Reach has more chance of going than Adam Johnson :P

Probably because he's in great form and has been a huge part of Sunderlands up turn in form over the last two months. He is a player that can turn a game on its head very quickly and IMO would be a great asset to Hodgson in the summer.

As for the other part of your post, lol.

Hart, Ruddy, Forster

----------------------------

Baines, Shaw

Walker, Flanagan

Cahill, Jagielka, Jones, Lescott

----------------------------

Gerrard, Lampard, Milner, Barry

Sterling, Henderson, Wilshere, Barkley, Oxlade-Chamberlain

----------------------------

Rooney, Sturridge, *Carroll

*If Carroll gets a run of games before the world cup, he has that 'no one knows how to deal with him' factor, If not maybe Rodriguez or Lallana

Ljohnson, regarding your reasoning for Carroll...why not Lambert then.

I don't rate Lambert much, (although he would have the same principle) I just don't see Lambert as a player that will scare defenders whereas Carrol I think would have that fear factor

When you look at the options and players available you realise just how poor England have become.

People bang on about the Premier League but when you look at the recent season failings of our 'top' teams then start to undestand that the national team will also suffer.

Anything past the group stage is a bonus.

Approaching 1000 posts, taken a while but a very good forum, good banter, really enjoy taking part, thanks to all.

merit point to celebrate would be good, stuck on 8 for ages, double fuigures surely.

Hang on.. is this the same Andy Carroll who has scored 13 goals in 72 appearances since moving from Newcastle 3 years ago? 44 of those games (and only 6 goals) in a top 6 side in Liverpool? And has scored 2 in 9 for England? And offers more or less nothing else and is weak as a flower for a man his size?

His header vs Sweden in the Euros, he is definitely not weak.

Heskey wasn't a goalscorer but was an asset.

There's a difference between Carroll and Heskey, Heskey could hold the ball up and was relatively intelligent. Carroll doesn't have a footballing brain at all. I'm not basing my opinion of Carroll on his goal return (or lack there of), but on his all round play. He's exceedingly average.

Lambert is a much more intelligent striker and offers a lot more, so does Rodriguez. Defoe is a better option too. Heck even Fraser Campbell and Darren Bent are better players than Carroll for me. Rooney, Sturridge and Welbeck are certs and with only one more position available for a striker, Carroll shouldn't even be considered imo.
