p_mards 1,365
Apparently Carrick and Cleverly have both not been selected by Hodgson. Barkley, Henderson, Lallana, Milner and Lampard have been selected.
boroinbishop 65
It's not as if Baines doesn't have much experience, he's a seasoned pro at 29 and has been playing for a hell of a long time considering his age.
OldManGravz 1,350
No Cleverly.. At least Hodgson has a bit of sense
p_mards 1,365
Ashley Cole must be gutted. Baines has been by far the better LB this season though so I can see the logic in taking him as first choice with Shaw as back up. Apparently Cole will retire from international football now. At least if we get to a penalty shoot out we could have a chance with some brilliant penalty takers like Baines, Lampard, Gerrard and Lambert. Add Rooney to that to make the 5 and we could have a chance lol.
London_born_Boro_bred 29
Glad to see Carrick and cleverly have possibly been left out. Where is this info coming from?
jamesp 125
True but having coles experience at the highest level for most of his career is surely invaluable, baines hasnt played in the CL or a world cup before
p_mards 1,365
It's all over twitter with sports journalists reporting it. The team is officially announced tomorrow so the players will have probably been informed today so the news is starting to leak out.

Will 2,958
The squad will be: GKs: Hart Foster Forster Defenders: Cahill Jagielka Jones Smalling Baines Shaw Johnson Midfielders: Gerrard Henderson Barkley Lampard Wilshere Lallana Milner Sterling Oxlade-chamberlain Strikers: Rooney Welbeck Sturridge Lambert Edit: according to the mail Ruddy has beaten Forster to the squad, which absolutely baffles me! London_born_Boro_bred 29
Cheers pmards Happy Lambert makes it if the mail is right think it would have been ludicrous if Carroll went instead. As for Ruddy he isnt going to play is he so i imagine its for him to get tournament experience. Would have still taken Forster mind. Good squad
p_mards 1,365
Ashley Cole @TheRealAC3 · now I got the call from Roy and agree England team should be about the young players. I think it best I retire from England team now. Ashley Cole @TheRealAC3 · now We have a great manager and team and I wish them only success. I will be supporting them like a true fan. Thanks to everyone for everything

To be fair, that's a pretty strong squad -------------Hart-------------- Johnson--Cahill--Jagielka--baines ----Henderson-Gerrard-Lamps--- Sterling------------------sturridge/lallana ----------Rooney/Sturridge------------- That's a very strong starting XI
p_mards 1,365
It could be a record for the number of players which it is their first international tournament.
jamesp 125
Really happy with that squad, pleased Roy is picking players in form instead of big names, if Capello had still been incharge we would have probably seen carrick, cleverly and young over sterling, barkley and lallana Lambert deserves that place over Carroll only change would have been cole for shaw, can still see why he has taken shaw though. like them comments from cole though, he has taken it well
p_mards 1,365
Ashley Cole @TheRealAC3 · now #Baines and #shaw are great players, proved this season, and are the future of this country, it was a pleasure to get #107 caps #eng # Ashley Cole @TheRealAC3 · now Like me or not, trust me it's hurt me to stop playing for my country #proud and #honoured ??
