Transfer Rumours, Summer 2014 "Didn't we do well!"

Omeruo and Ayala or Gibson for me. Think it's time for Woody to take a back seat, we need a consistent back four

Agree with KM on this. We need a consistent partnership and woody, as good as he is, is only ever going to be in and out of the side.

I agree too. I am a big fan of Woodgate, he's still a classy defender who wins nearly every header but his injuries :( I would rather have a settled back line.

Some bod called agent boro on twitter saying we will offer 2m plus Butterfield to Forest for Lansbury. Also that we have accepted 2m for Steele from Stoke.

Total crap I reckon, but I wouldn't be happy with that Lansbury deal.

Was on the Forest forum that Wigan had offered 2mil for Lansbury and Forest just laughed it off.

Woody will start every Saturday if fit. Might be on the bench for the midweek games, injuries permitting.

Thing is when he is in and out of the defence each week it can unsettle them so much. Its vital to have a settled defence. He is our best CB though

Yep. If I were Gibson and wasn't selected as first choice - given the partnership I'd forged with Omeruo last season - I'd be tempted to ask for a transfer...

Omeruo has even said he wants to move to develop his partnership with Gibson further...

I get settled lineup argument, but if one of our less talented defenders is in the lineup and makes a mistake that woody wouldn't have made had he been playing and it costs us 2 points... and we miss the play offs by one... for me the best players play if they're fit. Its karankas job to make the wholr thing seemless if the best players cant play and a replacement has to come in.

No way will woodgate be a 1st choice. It will be omeruo and Ayala if he comes back.

You play your best team, not your best players ;)

true but under mogga when we were struggling so much at the back I would say it was mainly down to not having a settled back 5. This doesnt mean we will have the same problems with a different squad and manager but its surely better to keep the same team as much as possible.

Ability wise surely woody is our best CB but with the fantastic partnership Omerou and gibson have made, its a very tough call for the manager

    • Well that's the risk of having single owners. They can do what they want. Reading that I have plenty of sympathy for the fans but they are paying the price of selling to shabby owners who is only in it for the money and will do what they see fit. It doesn't sound like force majeure because of Covid-19 but rather that the are owned by people who genuinely don't care and probably have a plan that will in some way make them a lot of money and leave Wigan in the mire. Tough on the fans as they don't get a say in who owns the club. Looks like the EFL have failed with their fit and proper test, but it's the owner that has chosen to put the club under administration, and if the finances are OK I can't see how they will be succesful with their appeal due to the virus. The owner can do what he wants and he has placed them in administration hence I can't see how they will escape the 12 points deduction.
    • I will keep saying it; if we don't win tonight we deserve to be relegated. Hull are really really bad.
    • It's the NOT knowing what to expect this afternoon from Boro that is fascinating to a degree. Really am looking forward to watching the game unfold. Get the first goal and I believe we could see a really good performance. Mentioned beforeI wonder what kind of game Marvin will have, will he make this a personal crusade?
