Transfer Rumours, Summer 2014 "Didn't we do well!"

Recommended Posts

The silence is deafening. At least we have a run of homegames coming up which we should be able to see out with the current squad.

Or, you know, Karanka just doesn't want to give opposition managers an idea of who he is going to play before the match ala Abella v Leeds

First name on the list, a 33-year old John Arne Riise... Even without his age why would we need another LB

Article published by Middlesbrough Pro on facebook asking who we should get... don't think they've got the gist of the transfers we're making really..

HEAD Coach Aitor Karanka says he is ready to move for other targets should Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford reject the chance to join Boro.

I think he's turned us down. Boro probably just put up this article hinting to fans that we'll be bringing in alternatives - Danny Graham I reckon! Just my gut feeling

I've made no secret of my dislike for Bamford, so from my own POV it's no massive loss. I've faith we'll find the right person - if not before September 1st, then we'll certainly have more idea about who'll be available from the Premiership / Top End Champo in the Emergency Loan window. Think it was DS who mentioned Becchio potentially being available - he'd be a good signing on loan with a view to a permanent.

Though it seems we're looking for someone who can play wide left and cut it to support Kike from wide. Samaras would've been a good fit for that, but as has already been mentioned - WBA calls for him.

More smokescreens for me....this is the first time this summer that the club has got involved with rumours....I think this is a ploy.

But the Bamford deal is hardly a rumour after Vickers update last week. The club knows the supporters must be wondering whats taking so long and if the club is being pushed around be Bamford. Now they've just confirmed that they want him, he has been set a deadline and that the club is working with alternative targets.

Some guy on fmttm reckons we've gone in for samaras.

Definitely Badger

Oh and 20 and working/at uni

Some person on here kept saying his name...maybe it was his agent trying to drum up some interest?! I cannot see any other reason why anyone would champion him?!

Haha that's who i was getting at. Thought his name was Badger or at least his thumbnail is one

There was never even a slight chance we would sign someone like Samaras. Going from champions league football to the championship...

And then his wages which would be astronomical.

Unless of course we're talking about diferent Samarases?

I think it is pronounced Sam-ar-eye.

But anyway like Lurker said I am pretty sure he is off to West-Brom.

Confirmation that those rumours are not me.

But come on guys, Samaras would be a REVELATION.

Ah ok. You're probably right, and I still expect him to join for tomorrows game or the cup game.

    • The last section is the exact reason Wigan won't win their appeal. The EFL simply refuse to acknowledge that their set of tests is not fit for purpose. They even then mention another case where that was evident (Bury).
    • The owners haven't massively overspent and run the club into the ground. From what I have seen Wigan is/are a fairly well run club in terms of finances (in a football sense anyway). But the owners have literally used the club for some very murky reason. They sold the club to a new owner (a fund) that the old owner was the majority shareholder in. Then immediately installed a new majority shareholder to the fund that now own Wigan. That shareholder bizarrely has no online footprint at all, other than everything related to him owning Wigan. This man then on the exact same day he has acquired the club has placed it in administration. It is that reason that Wigan are appealing the decision. All of the above of course was signed off by the EFL themselves. Which opens a whole new can of worms.
    • https://www.efl.com/news/2020/july/efl-update-wigan-athletic/   Here is the latest statement by the EFL on the Wigan situation. I agree with a lot of what they say up until they start trying to defend their fit and proper test.
    • Apologies when I said 1/4 of the creditors, I was meaning 25p out of the £. I should have made that clearer. In terms of our situation in 1986 I'm not too well versed with the details (as it was before my time). But I'm pretty sure we were going into Liquidation rather than administration.  I also imagine that the EFL regulations/rules have been updated since 1986.
    • As far as I can tell it's the only argument that they can even try to make, and even that's weak AF.
