Exactly.

That and I cancelled by Boro + subscription. Didn't seem worth it for 2 games. :-/

Was it worth it for most of the rest? :s

Was purely for commentary but I cannot be ***d listening to Ally and Maddo moaning about what could have been for the final 2 games whilst we just go through the motions.

Plus, that fiver will buy me 8 cans from Aldi this weekend :D

Yeah sounds a much better use of your money :) I have to admit I couldn't be bothered to listen the other night against Reading and I don't know if I'm going to bother going on Saturday now. I just can't be bothered when I can see that they can't either. Although having said that some of the best Boro wins I've seen have come in the meaningless end of season games - Spurs 5-1 and Man City 8-1 spring to mind.

Sorry, can you guys out of the area not get commentary via the radio/internet then? As daft as it sounds I just assumed you could?

:(

You'd think there would be some mechanism for being able to pick up any regional radio, especially BBC, wherever you are in the country. As a license payer you're paying for it after all.

We deserve to drop, so far. Had ample opportunities of late to get ourselves out of trouble but after good wins at Reading, Yeovil and Charlton we've let ourselves down at home, especially against Leeds last weekend.

Just hope AK continues to ignore the fact that Butterfield is your best midfielder, can really do without the lad scoring the goal that condemns us to the pub league.

On the 26th April as well. The same day (17 years ago) that the same manager took us to the Premier League...

:s

In fairness, Butterfield has been playing a lot more regularly recently.

Aye and he's been playing well recently. Scored back to back goals against Birmingham and burnley (2 nice goals too!).

He's had a nice run of games and looks infinitely more confident in that attacking midfield role than he did earlier this season. Definitely isn't our best midfielder though!

No probs. If we all had the same opinion it'd be dull.

Selfishly, I hope he's not involved again. Our central midfield is terrible, and if JB, Tomlin and Leadbitter start I think we're down.

For me the best midfield trio would be chalobah Butterfield and leadbitter with Tomlin on the left and then Adomah on the right. If your central midfield isn't brilliant then those 3 should ensure you have an absolutely torrid time!

Hopefully you'll see how much our defence has improved from the last time we played you. I seem to recall paddy McCourt (is that the right name) dribbling past 7 or 8 static players unwilling to put a challenge in before tucking it under steele. That epitomised us under mowbray.

Not too fussed about the outcome of this game. I'd rather us have beaten millwall and lost this one as I ***ing hate millwall!

The best (free) way that ive found to listen to the match whilst I'm away at uni is for someone back home to skype me and just put the radio on next to the laptop so that it plays through. Works quite well and doesn't cost a penny, but it does require you knowing someone in the area who is willing to do it.

Or... Even better, if you know someone who's going to the match, get them to Skype you, and film it on their phone

I would be surprised to see Butterfield and Leadbitter start together, unless they wanted Grant to play the more holding role and play a simpler game than he has this year.

just gotta feeling Butterfield wont play ....two reasons ....one, he wouldnt dare ,would he. score and relegate his old club ...two, he was pretty poor in the match at barnsly .probably his worst performance .

personally im a bit intrigued how good or not so good . the two youngters that have regulatly beem on the bench are , id like to see them given a run out in these last two games .

After karanka saying we lacked motivation against Reading surely he has to drop the main culprits and give some highly motivated youngsters a good amount of game time to show him and the fans what they're capable of.

Obviously I want us to win but I'm not looking forward to Barnsley potentially being relegated.

I meant to ask this question earlier but forgot. After the Reading game did Karanka say that he didn't know how to motivate the players? I was told that but wasn't sure if it was something different but on a similar theme about the players not being motivated?

I think it was done as a Cloughyesque reverse psychology. When Forest were losing at half time they were expecting a rollicking but he didnt turn up until the very last moment when he popped in and said "sorry lads my fault I picked a rubbish team" they went out and won the game. Im hoping Karanka was hoping for this sort of result this weekend.

I'm kinda hoping Steele will be given a shot tomorrow, after years of him as our first choice keeper doesn't he at least now deserve a chance to impress in a match environment? If he isn't given an opportunity like pretty much everyone else has then i hope he leaves in the summer and recovers his career before its too late.

    • Judging by their actions, our government are very much experimenting with the idea of herd immunity too. As for American Police, when you have the POTUS going on TV and saying "When the looting starts, the shooting starts" without a single trace of irony, are you honestly surprised?
    • Very true and sadly we have a long time to go putting up with it. The only crumb of comfort is that we are not residents of the USA who clearly ae experimenting with the idea of herd immunity judging by so many mass crowding. I have to admit I was deeply moved and appalled by the recent incident and attitude shown by American Police.
    • Most evenings I have had a glass of red wine, a decent Merlot or Cab Sav. Under normal circumstances I would only have drunk at the weekends so although it is only one glass (medium to large) I do wonder if I am over doing it!
    • What's everyone been drinking during lockdown then? Personally i'm into craft beer, but because my usual bottle shop is closed and we've all been travel restricted, i've been limited to what I can get from the supermarkets. Luckily, Tesco have raised their craft beer game over the past couple of months and they've got some cracking beers that you'd easily pay over a fiver for a 330ml can in a bottle shop, but none in Tesco are more than £3.50. So far i've drank: Evil Twin - Wake up and smell the Gose: Breakfast gose with blueberries and salt. Really weird sounding, even weirder smelling and tasting. Sounds like it should be awful but I've had three cans of this and I still don't know if I really like it or not, haha. Brave of Tesco to stock this, though. BrewDog USA vs Evil Twin - Roaster Coaster: Nitro Imperial Vietnamese Coffee Stout. A simply incredible stout, but given the two breweries involved it shouldn't be a surprise. Brewdog already do two great stouts in Jet Black Heart and Zombie Cake, this is sweeter than either of those (well we are talking Vietnamese Coffee here!) and the addition of nitro makes this such a smooth ride. Brilliant and more canned stouts should be nitro'd IMO. Salt Beer Factory - Ikat DDH DIPA: An incredible DDH DIPA, fruity and smooth, best of the bunch Vocation - Breakfast Club 2.0: They did a collab with Yeastie Boys last year which was a blueberry & Belgian waffle pastry stout, that was great but this solo release ramps up the fruitiness and is even smoother. Cracking stuff. Vocation - Hop, Skip & Juice: Superb NEIPA, billed as a tropical Pale Ale, but they're not fooling anyone. This is juicy (duh) and smooth with a soft bitter finish. Magic Rock/Salt Beer Factory - Ripe Times: Two superb Northern breweries come together on this NEIPA and it packs a punch with the bitter hops but they soon give way to the tropical fruit smoothiness that NEIPAs are known for. Was worried about this as I don't like my beers to be too high on the IBU scale but this was very, very good. Vocation - Love & Hate: It's an NEIPA from one of my favourite breweries and again, they just happen to be from the North! Sadly this is a bit too bitter for my tastes, although it does have a very distinct mango flavour. This weekend i'll also be having Northern Monk's Tropical World, which is a tropical smoothie Milkshake IPA, and a bottle of Franziskaner Weissbier Naturtrub, which is a Hefeweizen. I've only ever had one Hefeweizen before and that was from an American brewery, but it was very good so it'll be interesting to see how a genuine German one compares 🙂 NB: It's occurred to me that I should probably attach a glossary of sorts to this post, for those who don't know much about beer beyond Carling and Fosters existing 😛 Gose - Sour beer, German in origin. Brewed with salt water to give it a distinct taste. DIPA - Double India Pale Ale. Basically a stronger version of an IPA, usually around 7-10% ABV DDH - Double Dry Hopped. Adding more hops to the brewing process at a later stage, or using double the amount of hops than you would in standard brew. Makes the beer more bitter but most brewers balance this with fruity flavours (which I like) NEIPA - New England India Pale Ale. Yes, this term makes no sense when you think about it. Basically it's a style of IPA where the beer is aggressively hopped, or unfiltered, giving it a cloudy, hazy appearance. My favourite style at the moment, even though the market peaked around a year ago. IBU - International Bitterness Units. The amount of hops in a beer. The higher the rating, the more bitter the beer will be. Most DIPAs are around 70-100 IBUs. To compare, a bottle of Budweiser is about 5-10 IBUs. Milkshake IPA - IPA brewed with lactose, gives the beer a very smooth, "milkshake" like texture. Often not as sweet as you'd imagine. Hefeweizen - German "white" beer brewed with wheat instead of malted barley. Next to no bitterness and usually has tones of banana and cloves. (I did originally consider making this post a separate thread in the off-topic section, but figured it probably wouldn't gather enough interest. However i'm always up for talking about beer so if anyone wants to move this there or start their own thread, i'd be fine with that!)
