January Transfer Window: Early Thoughts

*This is not a January Transfer Thread. It's just a discussion I thought I would start because I'm so bored with nothing on TV tonight and I'm not the biggest fan of international breaks :D*

 

So then, according to AV in one of his blogs earlier this year (I can't seem to find a link for this particular blog), Gibson is to strongly back his man in the January Transfer Window to enhance our chances of gaining promotion if we are doing well.

 

If we are in and around the Top 6 in January, which seems reasonably probable given our fantastic start to the season, which position(s) would you like us to strengthen in?

 

Is there anyone in particular we should look to bring in? Maybe Danny Graham to add more firepower in attack and to compete with Kike for a starting place?

 

Personally I would definitely want us to beef up our central midfield options, we don't have many options there if Clayton or Leadbitter are injured/suspended. It appears that Karanka probably thinks Bryn Morris is not ready yet.

 

I'd also want us to look at adding more firepower in attack. We need someone who fits in our system and is of a similar style to Kike. We can't rely on him for 46 games.

 

We could do with another right back as well. Fredericks has looked the real deal but we don't have any other specialist right backs (Abella is unlikely to be fit anytime soon). We could play one of our centre backs there but I'd rather we didn't.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us try to sell R.Williams and Carayol when they return from injury as both will have just 6 months left to run on their contracts. Steele and Ledesma too.

 

We need to get Leadbitter tied to a new contract by then as otherwise I'd concerned about us being offered money too good to turn down for him. We will have to see if we can/want Bamford to sign until the end of the season too as his loan expires in January.

 

We could do with another CM as we only have 3 that are proven. Other than that, at this moment thinking about our teams balance and team spirit, I'd be cautious about potentially upsetting the players by bringing in too many players in January. We will have the loan window after January if we pick up key injuries so it's not like January is our last chance to strengthen.

Hopefully we will be able to keep him on and it wont come to that. There is a real dearth of striking talent thats available at this level so finding an adequate replacement could be difficult.

Defo a CM for cover, with our run to the FA cup final coming up we need all the options we can get.

 

If Bamford is only here till Jan then would we move for Graham again? Only issue is that he will have gone 6 months without playing a game again so will be weeks off match fitness

Try and extend Bamfords loan deal as I believe it's only a short loan to keep his options open but chelsea are happy for him to be with us

All we need is a cm. I have read a few reports suggesting Bamford wants to extend his deal here. So a cm and perhaps an rb are all wee need.

I would like us to bring in another CM, unless Morris improves. Given that Bamford extends his loan, I would want us to run the rule over who to keep and who to release/wait untill June with regards to their contract. Adomah and Leadbitter must be sorted quickly. I imagine they will be given improved offers. As for the others, if we want to offer them a new contract before june, lets say with the case of carayol, I believe it would have to be on improved terms. -and I cant see it happening really, unless he hits the ground running. (I reckon he is still on the same contract that he signed on). As for williams, Ledesma and others, I believe we will wait untill June. Certainly the case for Williams. We might even try to sell him come January.

The only problem with williams is that hes so injury prone I dont think any club would risk making an offer for him, same goes for carayol as hes still recovering from a serious injury too

The most important point of the January transfer window is to keep hold of what we already have. Make no bones about it, if we're flying high come December the vultures will be circling.

 

The squad we have now is good enough to secure a top 6 spot. We have to concentrate on keeping it together. Which isn't to say it can't be improved. We're a centre midfielder light considering Karanka doesn't trust Brynn Morris to fill that fourth spot. I'd like to have seen him thrust in against Blackpool personally when Clayton went off.

 

Above all else, keep the squad together.

R.Williams is garbage and there wont be any team daft enough to take him on a free.
