This talk of needing a left winger... does this mean we reckon De Pena isn't going to come good? Or just that he isn't going to come good soon enough to make a difference this campaign?

After spending over 2 million in De Pena I don't think is going to be "allowed" to bring in another winger unless someone leaves. If Adomah is sold or we get some money from Wildschutt weight but otherwise I can only see us bring in someone like Bamford and that's only because of previous ties.

We have an expensively build squad and something has to give if we spend more and bring someone in.

i think its pretty obvious hes not going to be pulling up trees any time soon. he doesnt seem to have anywhere near enough confidence.

i reckon when he starts to be himself, he'll be one of those little one two type players who'll try and do the simple stuff, more a link player who'll keep the team ticking over. not a player who will take a team apart on his own.

If that's so, we could have just kept Reach around and saved the money.

Jurys out for me. I cant see what he has that would make him a success in our league. He doesnt have pace a trick or some sort of genius Im hoping im wrong if he does become a great one touch pass and move player then fair enough. But if i was scouting him im not sure i could find a reason to buy him based on what ive seen so far

You probably would have watched him much longer than the what, 5-6 games you've seen of him so far :)

Aye, the jury's out on De Pena. And aye, we could've just kept Reach about - but, personally, I see more of a potential spark in De Pena than in Reach. Adam has had his chances to shine, and the jury has always been out. CDP looks as if he has the potential to create something from nothing for me, whereas with AR I always expected disappointment.

If we bring in a winger, it'll be on loan. Potentially with CDP going out to a side like Bolton or Rotherham to increase Champo experience.

Personally, though - I'd happily go into February with the continuity of the squad we have currently.

Hopefully De Pena will improve as the teams performance's improve... He needs to be more alert & quicker in possession of the ball, I think he might be trying too hard & Nervous because he doesn't want to make mistakes... I think if he relaxes a not more & AK keeps encouraging him to play his normal game & express himself he will eventually come good.

I think De Pena has what it takes to be a success, More game time & encouragement is going to get the best out of him.

I'm certainly not writing CDP off, but I don't think he'll be a player that will influence our chances of going up. Look at Nsue it's taken him 15 months to really get into the team and start showing some real potential and he is older and had played football in Europe for his entire career (if that really matters).

CDP is still young and has just moved to another continent. Moving away from your family in Uruguay to the North East of England can't be too easy when you are young and not bringing your family with you. He obviously has talent otherwise we wouldn't have bought him. He was too expensive to be a lucky punt (like Wildschutt) so I imagine the scouting network will have done their work on him and once he became available we moved in on him. Bigger teams were interested previously iirc.

It's all a matter of time and if we manage to unleash the potential the scouts have seen in him. Mentally he has to be able to cope too and settle down, and that is something you can't tell if a player can before you have actually signed them.

Doubt it. I dont think id have gone back after the third time. But then he obviously did better in his own league. It is a huge step up in speed and intensity and we could have to write off this season. Trouble is we dont have enough players to do that

I'd love us to sign someone who has a similar effect to what Ighalo had for Watford.

Players of his quality aren't available to teams in this league (unless your owners also own the club that he played for at the time)

They are if you're willing to pay good money for them.

Reports this morning suggesting Derby looking at Blackman and Grabban.

That was kind of my point, Watford got him for nothing because he played for Udinese, I don't believe any other team in this league could've got him. Blackman and Grabban aren't even close to Ighalo's quality. I also think if Grabban is available we will be in for him as we had interest previously.

I'd bring Reach back and tell Preston they can have De Pena instead. We can rely on Reach to do a job, i couldn't say with any confidence that we could rely on De Pena in the here and now. He needs to learn the league, so get him out somewhere else to cut his teeth.

for the first time ever...I don't think we need to bring anyone in when the window opens....

I think you always need to bring in new players. There's always someone out there who can improve the team. Bamford for one...
