Snowblind 1,734
So aye - that's probably why Sqwarker aren't counting many as assists. Derby one wasn't necessarily a pass, they're not counting assists leading to OGs, nor winning penalties, or that one for Gaston with it not being an intended pass. Still, his was the last involvement of a Boro player leading to those goals - so, really, an assist.

OldManGravz 1,350
So out if his five assists, two were him getting tackled, one was a scuffed shot, and one was a cross that didn't go to a Boro player? Reaching a bit there Snowblind :D
Snowblind 1,734
I'm not the one reaching... As I said, those came from Transfermarkt's stats. All I did was relay the information and give them context! I'd do the same for Nsue but to be honest, it's nearing the end of my week off and I can't be ***d ;) Technically, he's got 5 assists. I agree that many are simply statistical assists as oppose to actually laid on goals. I'm a little indifferent to Gorgeous George if I'm honest, I think he's a good player, but not the Messiah as some Boro fans see him. I'm not trying to defend or big him up him in any way, shape or form - just add context to the discussion and stats.
pikerman 1,121
I was one of Nsue's biggest critics on here, I thought his defending and overall positional play as a full back was well below the standard expected. He has improved dramatically this season but the basic faults are still there to see and frankly he would get pulled apart in the Premiership every game. So well done to him on working hard at his game this season and for what he has contributed, can he keep up that level of improvement, frankly I doubt it.
Humpty 3,261
Correct. The discussion was regarding his lack of quality in the final third and those "highlights" would seem to back that up.
Salopsmoggie 2
His crosses are abysmal not one of his crosses beat the first man against Hull. Bolded the key part of your sentence there. Against Hull & Charlton & Rotherham his crosses have been below par. For a large chunk of this season he's been a much better crosser than anything else we've had. I'm not sure has he provided any crosses that have lead to goals this season? I can't think of any? So it's Nsue's fault that we don't put enough players into the box, cool. Looking solely at assists is a hugely flawed strategy KM, you should know that. Got to agree with the 'players in the box' bit, the goal against Hull was generated by us having four players in the box( including one of our central midfielders) when the cross came in. There is often just one man in the box to aim for against 3/4 defenders which is quite an ask from any winger.
wilsoncgp 9,283
I didn't realise we were supposed to be judging George on his quality in the final third. That's what our front 4 is supposed to be for. What George does well is he is defensively sound and he gets us down the pitch when given the opportunity. Though being asked not to do it so much this season, he still gets up and down that left-hand side effectively like no other left-back we've had for years. He might not be the best crosser of the ball but he's strong, positive and always makes himself available. Lost count of the number of times he's cut inside when feigning to deliver high up the pitch and despite it being his probably most used attacking trick, so many have been fooled by it and some still continue to be. Nsue provides the same kind of threat on the other side, gets us up the pitch though he's probably got a better delivery on him and is not quite as defensively solid as George (put it this way, you could feasibly play George at centre-half if needs be, not something you would use Nsue for). Him and Nsue or whichever full-backs play, their sole purpose in the team is not to create. They break us out of defence on the sides. Let's leave the creativity and involvement in goals debate to those who are meant to be doing it in every game, the likes of Downing, Adomah, Stuani, Ramirez, Rhodes and Nugent. Our failings in creativity and goalscoring are most certainly not on our full-backs heads.
Humpty 3,261
We were discussing their respective merits in the final third.

Honestly if you want stats just use whoscored.com They also have a glossary on how their stats such as assists, key passes etc. are defined. They define an assist as 'A pass that directly leads to a chance scored by a teammate' Ergo Friend only has one assist in the championship according to them.
Tom 2,492
For my money, I don't see how Friend's cross against Leeds can't NOT be an assist. It caused sufficient panic between keeper and defender that the ball ended in the net. The rest are dubious at best, mind.
