I had a bad feeling about today walking into the ground, it was nowhere near what actually happened.

A complete and utter shambles from midway in the first half to the end. It was pitiful that we didn't test Gomes at all, we had zero creativity and we lost our heads (shown by the silly fouls and yellow cards) and yet again, the substitution policy was bizarre.

I could rip into every player, but I'll single a few out:

Valdes - this isn't Barcelona son, you need to accept that you are going to have balls whipped in at you - grow some balls and command your box

De Roon - what actually are you bringing to the team? I'd have Clayton in ahead if you any day at the moment

Stuani - for the love of God just stop turning up on matchdays - or at least f**king try to play your position

Negredo - get out of our club if you can't be bothered to try. The BBC calling you atrocious was an understatement.

Karanka - accept this system and mentality is hurting us. We could pass our way around championship teams but now we have been properly found out - dont start talking about timewasting mate, it makes you look like a bad loser.

The ref was poor, but we were worse today. Unless we completely re-evaluate our approach for the next few games, we could get absolutely battered in the next two games. Then we'd have a major problem. Im still livid about today amd will be for some time.

The right wing position is the key here, as I think you alluded to earlier. I don't think we were ever planning for Stuani to be our first choice out there, and I don't think Adomah was the answer either. I think we were always happy to let him go, as soon as we had another option there.

I think t's pretty obvious Adama wasn't our first choice, or else we wouldn't have signed him at the 11th hour. There was talk of interest in Deulofeu and Brady, and I think that is possible, but we clearly had another RM in mind most of the summer.

It goes without saying now that Adama has to start. It's pressure on him that's slightly unfair, as it's not his fault we have so few options there, but Stuani isn't offering enough, and he's all we have.

The 'worrying' thing about what you're saying there mate is that Stuani is our top scorer.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't think Stuani is a bad player. I don't even think he's as bad as some make out on the right (although I know he has deficiencies) . But his main strength last season in that position was when Adomah was playing on the left, and that's because he cut inside onto his right foot and pinged a ball into the back post. When Downing went out on the left, we weren't able to utilise that, and Stuani lost his place to Adomah. This season we've carried on with Downing on the left, and seem to be somehow hoping that we can still get the best out of Stuani coming in at the back post.

I do think he has a role to play, but first choice on the right is not it.

I don't have an issue with Stuani but I have an issue with him on the right in a side that lacks much in the way of creativity elsewhere. At this level though I don't think it would matter if we had the Premier League equivalent of Adomah on the left hand side, we'd still be limited. Let's be honest we were limited last season in some ways, we just had a much better squad than most of the teams we were playing against. Bringing it back to Stuani, he went half a season without scoring a goal and he wasn't that good pretty much every time he played in that period. If he doesn't score he adds absolutely nothing to this team. We could carry him last season to a certain extent but I don't know if we can this time around. The issue isn't him though, it's us, our system and our entire approach.

just to veer off from the abjectness of the players performances , the formation issues, players not being utilised properly and  growing depression in general on recent results , a few have mentioned what is seemingly becoming more obvious  that our recruitment under AK is throwing up major question marks .

I wonder  how many folk are doubting the wisdom of  bringing in the services of  extra expenditure with the so called specialist agents , advisors  and  gurus  that have  been set up to give us a  top class scouting network  ,  it looks like weve thrown quite a bit down the drain rather than being  taken up a level (was going to mention particular names but my memory has blanked on me as i type}

I don't think our network has been used fully yet. Takes awhile to set up something to that extent, not gonna happen over a season. Think we'll start seeing that been utilised in the future and probably continue to be long after Karanka has gone.

I'm still annoyed about today. Usually if we lose I can get over it after a couple of hours. Yet here I am, in bed and still annoyed.

We have a manager who has such a terrible track record when we go behind, it genuinely is laughable. But I wouldn't mind that, if at the very least, he was shown to be trying to fix the problem. If we played one game and got spanked, I'd expect him to change and try something else. But no.

All we get is the same 4231 formation and teams must be able to set up all week knowing that we will play a certain way. As a football fan, I honestly found is so so so ***ing boring to watch today. Is that really what we pay our money for?

I think a lot of people would be happy to see us lose if one, we had a go and two, if we changed things up from time to time. Fischer and Rhodes played well against West Ham and one only gets 3 minutes to score a goal? What a joke.

We struggle for goals, yet have possibly the best striker in goals per games ratio for a long time. But, we won't play him. If he doesn't suit the system, ***ing adapt and change it.

How Stuani still plays on the right really makes my blood boil. He is so so soo bad and is just so one dimensional. I'd rather Traore play all game and lose the ball 9/10 times for him to have that one moment of magic. Not only is it unpredictable for the opposition, it's also excitement from a fans point of view.

I feel sorry for the 28,000 there today. What an insult to pay to watch that.

I'm saying this now, but he will be gone by Christmas. Not a chance we will win our next lot 5 fixtures. At least Gibson will have a valid excuse by then to get rid.

I'm all for sticking by him, if only he would be willing to venture to a different formation. Maybe a 433 would click for our players? Or a 442. Either way 4231 doesn't seem to be cutting it so far.

Wasn't this network set up during Mogga's era? Pretty sure it started when Gary Gill moved from BBC Tees to the club as European Scout:

“I’ll be doing a lot of travelling by the sounds of things. I think the manager wants to put a network in place and he’s in the process of doing that,” added Gill

I really couldn't agree more, I think Karanka hasn't quite grasped the mentality of the Boro fan, whilst he is doing his best to stick to the 'game philosophy' he has so much confidence in we just want to see our team give it a go, we've lived with disappointment since the day we became fans so its nothing new but this is awful. What would have been the worse reaction? Him changing it early and us having a right go but losing 3-2 because we exposed ourselves a bit more? Who knows we could have battered then!! Do he actually think our defence is that bad it needs two holding midfielders to protect it?  Has he even considered the fact we might not need the two CM's if we are putting their back line under some sort of pressure? I genuinely believe Stuani is a serious handful as a striker (2nd striker more so) yet the poor bloke is put at outside right making him look a muppet. At least as a paying fan, if I would have seen anything along the lines of De-roon, Fischer or Traore, Ramirez, Downing Stuani, Negredo with Two strikers I would have thought 'yes' lets have a bloody go. The reason I don't watch continental football is because most of it is played the way we play and it STINKS!

Interesting read this thread. If you'd have scored with the sort of goal we scored and won 1-0, the Watford fans would be up in arms and you'd be happy to grind out a valuable win with hope to push on a bit.

You could try playing Negredo and Rhodes together? You can be hard to beat and provide a threat. Yesterday there was very little threat.

We were infinitely better than at Burnley but yes, we didn't create much either. Hull, Sunderland and ...... to go down.

We started to set one up under Mowbray but with the new blokes coming in, you have to say that we must surely already be changing that with a view of bigger and better players.
