January 2017 Transfer Window

Middlesbrough FC goes on. No matter how much we like a player, manager etc we continue.  I try and be realistic, I don't expect the majority of players or managers to love MFC the way we do. Some might end up doing so and that's wonderful but at the end of the day this is a job to them. Gaston helped us promoted, job done and I'm thankful for that. I'd be disappointed if he left but there is nothing more to it than that.

For the record the Snodgrass pursual has come from the scouting department.

Are you insinuating that he's another player that Karanka doesn't really want?

Nope. I'm saying he's another player, like Rhodes/Downing that were identified by the scouting department as a player that would improve us. Karanka verified all incomings so ultimately the buck still stops with him. He obviously identifies his own players at times...Valdes is a good example. Snodgrass isn't a Karanka suggestion.

I've heard 3 different reports on Snodgrass today.

"He's at Rockliffe looking around"

"He's in London signing for West Ham"

"He's at Turfmoor"

The turfmoor rumour was a tweet which my dad saw and told me about. Tried to find it... failed. Sorry :(

a few personal thoughts regarding Snodgrass,  Firstly hes having probably one of his best seasons and does look the stand out player for Hull, but imo what weve seen this season is his absolute Zenith in terms of what can be expected and tbh a great deal of the stuff hes done thats caught the eye are the same things most of us hoped for or maybe expected from Downing the difference being one of them is at the top of thier game and the other has performed well below his best in the last 12 months or so.  i think signing him would have  a more immediate impact than long term so bearing that in mind  do we think 10 million (minimum) is worth the half chance of his current (argueably best possible)form transfering immediately to our team and being enough to keep us up.

i can take him or leave him .....as long as we sign someone this week .

I said when the Snodgrass story came out weeks ago that I'd be amazed if Hull sold him to us.

Until he's in a Boro shirt I still find it hard to believe that they'd sell to us, it doesn't make sense to sell to another team in a relegation fight particular if West Ham are interested.

Snodgrass is the only one that we've been linked with that I think would hit the ground running. His strengths fit the way we play and he's a dead ball specialist which we currently don't have. His corners and free kicks alone should get us another 10+ goals. We have so much height in the box but are constantly let down by poor delivery. Added to the fact signing him would directly weaken a rival I think signing him is a no brainer

It makes no difference as far as I can see. If they're willing to sell Snodgrass they're as good as relegated already. It doesn't matter who they sell him to. I appreciate they might not see it like that.

When suggestions were made that Ramirez wanted to leave and had spoken to Ranieri I think quite a few thought it was BS, but this reared its ugly head weeks ago so in that time nothing between Karanka and Ramirez has been resolved, Ramirez will have been advised to put the transfer request in to force a deal through. I don't see the point in keeping a player who's unhappy regardless of who he is. Mind its unusual for Karanka to fall out with anyone.

Too expensive for me. And as for set pieces and dead ball specialist, downing is potentially just as good if not better, but has clearly been frozen out and has no confidence. What our squad doesn't have is pace other than traore and Ramirez

Karanka said from the start that if the right offer comes in and Ramirez wants to go then he'll go. Him handing in an official transfer request won't force anything. We aren't actively trying to sell him, so if someone else wants him, it's down to them to match our valuation, or he won't be leaving.

I believe his first reply was actually "No chance" at the prospect of him being sold.

If we strengthen our team then it'll mean Hull probably require more points to stay up, it makes it twice as difficult for them. Our only hope is Snodgrass saying he only wants to join us which might force Hulls hands.

It seems unlikely that he'd say that though when West Ham are interested.

I get that 8mill plus add ons sounds a lot but in the context of the transfer and how it would affect a rival, I don't think it's too bad. Can't agree with you on the downing part. His set pieces have been poor for a while and his delivery from open play not much better. Downing hasn't played much and it's definitely a confidence player but snodgrass is bang on form so should hit the ground running. Downings a good player but just doesn't fit at the minute
