Anyone hear any racists chants today?

I didn't, but it really wouldn't surprise me if some people in the Red Faction are a bit racist.

The comment below that spoke volumes, saying why did you not sit in the family stand everywhere else you can expect them kind of chants....

Does it speak volumes? I've sat in several different sections of the ground and never heard racist chants.

Been in the south stand for 3 seasons and to be fair iv not heard anything like that

Was Gestede any good?

He is as much of a premier league footballer as I am judging by today

We should sign you up then, only problem is that you clearly have problems with your sight...

I guess it depends what you expect from Gestede. I expected someone strong with good hold up play and he seems like he offers that and a little bit more. His main issue was his decision making. Some of his positioning was a bit off too but both those things could come with game time. I saw enough of him today to see some promise. Had a tough job but he's much better at holding up the ball than Negredo.

Guest Changing Times

Spoke to a couple of family members who went today and both said he was pretty poor? Thought I'd have a wander over to FMTTM and that seems to be the general consensus there as well.

His performance was overshadowed by Bamford for me, Patrick's movement and general play was top notch as we already knew. Gestede was decent in my opinion, but he can't be any more than that because he got zero service to his main strength.

Like I said, some of his best work came off the ball. If Leadbitter had been looking up a bit more, or say, a Forshaw or Ramirez had been playing, he'd have had numerous one-on-ones, such was his running off the shoulder of the last man.

Tell me one thing he did well?

Really hope its because he was in a new side but he looked completely lost to me today

Held the ball up well, got into good positions, showed good movement that was regularly ignored by his teammates.

I remember a great knock down to Fischer (I think) where he must have leapt 8ft in to the air to gently head it back for a shooting opportunity on the edge of the box. But the guy took a extra touch and the shot was blocked. (Again it was either Fischer or Paddy)

Sorry i did not explain that well, i meant it spoke volumes that someone would write that reply you shouldn't have to sit in the family stand to avoid racists chants.

We are in the hat tonight and lots of others would like to be so happy with that

Good to see Downing remind us of his class and maybe (just maybe) this can be the start of some game time. I for one would rather have someone wanting to be in the team rather than a Ramirez who wants out. I rarely criticise Aitor but for my money letting Downing go would be plain stupidity so hope this now makes all parties see sense.

The likes of Gestede and Paddy needed game time and frankly to get used to how we play. Neither have played much football for 2 years so will need time to get match sharp as well

Hoping for a relatively easy home game tonight to keep the dream alive

    • If you ignore everything in terms of the debt and selling the stadium to themselves etc. Thinking of infrastructure they've got a good training ground complex, which has planning permission for improvements/expansion. Plus their stadium is almost a like for like of ours. Both of which are also slightly newer than ours.  They have a good academy set-up which has and does still produce players of a good level. I think last season they gave more minutes to academy players than any other club in the Championship.  Then first team I suppose they are like every other championship club, got a few good players and a lot of ok players. Their wage bill is too high (looking at the 2018 accounts) for what they earn. They definitely have room for growth and improvement. But as you say there isn't really much difference between them and a lot of other championship clubs (ignoring all the other stuff). I'd say their academy is probably better than most and they've got a good infrastructure, with an underwhelming first team picture (in terms of performance and players).  But I suppose as an investor you'd be looking at the potential payout of reaching the PL, which may tempt you into taking a loss on them for a 3 year spell or so. But considering all the other stuff, I think your investors with that way of thinking are being put off, due to the initial potential outlay, which will massively impact your payouts.
    • What standard of target man are you expecting @TLF10 if you think that they would only be back up?
    • I know we need 2-3 strikers this summer but I'd like to see us looking at our first choice strikers right now and, in fact, I'm quite worried that we already are. Those names, Collins, Smith, Wyke, none of them sound to me like they'll make such a significant impact on this team that we will be battling at the very top end of the division. These are all strikers entering or are in their prime age and as far as I can tell, no other team with those kind of ambitions next season are looking at these guys and thinking they're ready for that. I could be wrong about them, if they sign I'll 100% give them the chance to prove me wrong as I would any player. But hesitant isn't a strong enough word to explain how I feel about giving them a 2-3 year deal here. I wouldn't expect them to hit the ground running or fire us to promotion and though it's still very early days in the window, I would not be at all shocked to see either of them being given the #9 shirt and be Warnock's main man going into next season.
    • Sorry! Back on topic. I think hob nobs are a gift from God himself.
    • Even if someone was willing to buy them, what are they buying? Genuine question. What is their academy like? What's their training ground like? Is there a future for Derby that doesn't need significant work on top of spending a lot of money just to regain ownership of assets they currently use? Even if they didn't have those debts to pay off, would we say Derby are a better prospect for someone with money than we are, for example?
