New MFC Manager Thread - Garry Monk Announced

Recommended Posts

The Telegraph are reporting that's he's leaving football completely.

I live with a Palace fan and that seems to be the word from them, that he wants to retire on a high. Suppose with that nice £1m payoff from the FA he's set now.

Allardyce is leaving Palace because he repeatedly clashed with the chairman, I can't see Gibbo appointing someone like big Sam. If Gibbo wants to stick with British managers, that would point towards Monk, Giggs or Pearson. If Monk is staying at Leeds and Giggs has been sounded out but apparently not fancied that would leave Pearson or maybe Pardew.

I can't see Gibbo going for either of those two due to their temperament. All the signs point towards Agnew, I'm afraid, especially after the Downing piece in the Gazette, it seems that we are turning into a local club for local people.

How are 'all the signs' pointing to Agnew?

Surely if he was the one Gibson wanted it would be done already, the only thing stopping him announcing Agnew as manager is probably that he's speaking to preferred options instead.

Just a hunch, that's all.

Agnew isn't local.

70 miles is pretty local in the scheme of things.

In interplanetary terms I guess so.

Still isn't local though.

In national terms, he's local. If Boro and Leeds can enjoy a local rivalry, then ..., oh it really doesn't matter, it was a quote from the TV series League of Gentlemen, I was alluding to the fact that the foreigners are being driven out of the club and local lads being retained.

I think Gibson will go with Agnew, he likes him, he trusts him and he's an inexpensive option. The players that are likely to stay like Agnew too. When AK joined he lost 3 of his first 4 and Gibbo's words to him were to give it time, things were improving and they would get better, I can see him saying the same to Agnew. I don't buy into the conspiracy theories about Agnew being a fall guy. I think Gibbo will explore other avenues, but ultimately settle for Agnew.
