Tom 2,492
Espinosa has been playing with an injury all season, and shouldn't have been playing at all for the last month. I don't think he's great either, but at Championship level, with a summer of rest, he might not be the disaster many suspect.
smogsterking the Inspirati 2,490
I think next season we will start seeing our academy players getting more time with the first team squad. It seems we do have quite a few promising upcoming players given their performance in the European cup last season. On the current squad I agree that a new keeper looks likely to be needed. A new centre back as well as I don't think Fry is quite ready. I really want to know what coaches see in Espinosa as he has been generally poor yet continues to play (even prior to the defensive shortage Chambers was pushed out to accomodate). That said he came highly regarded and perhaps he hasn't quite recovered from his injury. The Championship might be better suited to him. Right back is a must for us or at least we need cover for Fabio if Friend is to remain here. Midfield wise I think we are pretty strong there and with de Sart to come back in we are good enough there for the championship. That said we need some creativity or at least somebody to contribute goals from that position like Tomlin did. Up front Gestede can do a job, we know Bamford could but he is an unknown quantity given his lack of game time. Stuani could be good if played there. Another forward will probably be needed. We really are in desperate need of creativity. We were foolish to get rid of Adomah without a significant replacement lined up even with Traore coming in we still needed somebody else. Hopefully someone like Fischer can step up if given a longer run in the team. My signings would be: GK RB CB AM RW/LW CF The most important thing for us though is to have our managers future sorted before the end of the season whether it's Agnew or another. Dan_Boro_Till_I_Die 1,181
KM I agree completely i mean our whole starting eleven barring Traore is slow, the whole squad needs pace everywhere.
Maccarone 265
Doesn't fill me with confidence even in the Championship.
richmfc 41
I think we'll be left with the following: Goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos Brad Guzan MLS Victor Valdes Tomas Mejias Defender Fabio Da Silva George Friend Daniel Ayala Bernardo Espinosa Ben Gibson Antonio Barragan Dael Fry Calum Chambers James Husband Midfielder Grant Leadbitter Adam Clayton Marten de Roon Stewart Downing Adlene Guedioura Adam Forshaw Carlos De Pena Attacking Midfielder Viktor Fischer Gaston Ramirez Adama Traore Striker Alvaro Negredo Christian Stuani Patrick Bamford Rudy Gestede GK is obviously a big concern. I think we'll desperately need centre half reinforcement. Gibson gone. Ayala's a constant fitness doubt. Can't rely on Fry yet. Espinosa is ***. We're ok in Centre Midfield, but we desperately need creativity. I'd like another striker or two. If your right we should get Valdes £5-9 mill Mejas £1 mill Gibson £25 mill De Roon £15 mill Ramirez £5 mill De Pena and husband £1.5 mill So roughly £52 million without touching the drop down payments, spent correctly we could have a very good side
Jimmy 140
Think we'll have the bones of a decent championship squad for next year, not sure about a promotion squad mind. The obvious players will go which is fine, the ones that I'd like to keep on to are the likes of Clayton, De Roon, Traore, Ayala. Ones that could go but could also stay. If we keep on to them and here's the key, invest wisely, then there's no reason we can't be challenging. Our recruitment is obviously fundamental, which is concerning because it has been *** poor recently. Newcastle have done well in buying proven Champ players such as Dwight Gayle and worked out well for them. Don't think our recruitment of the likes of the De Pena's etc are what we need for the Champo. Someone needs to appraise Gill and Ortas work so far at the end of this season, because it's seems from the outside as if it's been thoroughly underwhelming.

Not a flipping chance. He's got one more year left on his contract, we'll let him go for free just to get him off the wage bill as he's probably one of the highest earners at the club. Nobody is going to pay that kind of money for an ageing GK no matter how good they are especially given the fact that he's in the final year of his contract. But I would hope we can convince him to stay for one more season at least.

Yeah agreed, think £15mil for De Roons also optimistic considering we didn't pay that for him and I can't see how his value has soared this season, despite him not being bad. For what it's worth I don't think VV is on massive wages (probably around £50k per week) given what he has said about how he'd fallen out of love with football before coming to us. Guest Changing Times
Interestingly you missed out Rhodes from that hes still our player not shef weds, i think if we go back down he will be coming back to us and karanka going might mean a fresh start for him here as well so he might stay if no prem offer comes along. I think there is more chance of Karanka coming back than Rhodes. He's contracted to shef Wed. Let's get them both back. Things have really fallen apart since they both left. Guest Changing Times
The funny thing is, if you think about, the changes that need to made next season are essentially the same whether we go down or somehow stay up. I think that tells it's own story.

I think that tells it's own story. It really does, it shows how short we are of alternatives. It's interesting that Agnew has kept to pretty much the same team plus subs as AK was using (baring the odd AK falling out with Downing). Often when a manager leaves, a couple of his favourite players get replaced with fringe players, who didn't get a chance under the previous man. We don't have anyone of any calibre on the fringes, as far as I can see, Agnew seems to have the same opinion of Bamford, Husband etc as AK had.

Much as I like the guy, I fail to see how De Roon is worth more than about £6M. I think we have way overpaid for him. Having said that, I reckon an attacking player like Ramirez, we might actually get more than £5M for. I guess it depends who (if anyone) is in the market for them.
Guest Changing Times
I think Bamford's been unwell but it would be a stretch to see Agnew pitching him in. Let's face it, we're still stuck doing the same things we were doing a month ago. Gibson and Karanka decided to part ways because we needed a change and then Gibson didn't make a change. For the first time I'm actually getting the point where I'd be happy for him to sell the club but that's for a different thread. I think I said I felt we needed a number of players next season. Negredo and Chambers return to their clubs. Ramirez needs to go whatever happens. I think I'd be looking to move Downing and Leadbitter on. Gibson will be picked off by someone, maybe Traore will as well if someone wants a project. We'll be left with a mix of players that we know can do it in the Championship and some that we don't really know what they can do. I think we'll need a couple of CB's, a fullback, at least one central midfielder and a couple of wide attacking players and maybe a number 10. To be honest there's a number of players not mentioned there I'd happily offload.

I don't thin that Gibson will sell the club for the simple reason that if he did, rather than being known as "The best chairman in football", he'd reduced to the status of "boss of a shipping company" that a lot of people aren't aware of. I think any of us would rather enjoy the adulation of fans and take the former option.
