Summer Transfer Thread, (Closes 8pm tonight)

Traore will win countless free kicks at this level as long as we bring in a set piece specialist he will be worth keeping, defenders are not as quick, mentally or physically in the championship so in theory he should have a field day.

Unless we get a double your money type offer I say keep him.

I'd say Fischer has shown to be very capable set piece taker. Personally from this transfer window I'd rather see us sign 2 or 3 Very very good players rather than a load of 5 million meh players.

As it stands currently I'd say the only first team position we NEED to strengthen is that troublesome left wing. That will change if and when De Roon/Gibson/Traore leave.

Traore--Fischer----------

--------Bamford-----------

To me thats good enough for promotion if you get a real quality signing on the left ala Burke/Jota, something of that ilk.

Only thing I'd query with this is have we got enough depth in the 3 roles behind the striker - we look light already - by the time you factor in injuries and suspensions of more games this season we will be short if we don't bring more in - but I'd agree on quality over quantity in general, hopefully some of the kids can step up to fill in squad roles but I doubt it in the attacking positions

Definately not enough quality in depth, and we need to bring in better players and push what we have onto the bench. We need an AM that is better than Fischer and make Fischer the competition and a RW that on paper is more productive than Traore so he is not automatic starter. And we definately need a starting LW that is without doubt. And sell Stuani and bring in a new striker to start alongside Bamford or at least on par with Bamford.

Traore was dropped out of the squad at the end of the season, probably for having a *** attitude just like at Villa, why bother trying to keep him?

Is there absolutely any evidence of this whatsoever?

None at all, in fact there is only evidence for the complete opposite. Karanka mentioned a few times that he enjoyed the challenge of coaching traore, he regularly played traore. Given his reputation for dropping and falling out with players who don't show the right attitude I'd suggest traore probably worked pretty hard.

Please keep him, we have possibly the fastest and best dribbler in the game. If he can improve on either his passing or finishing there is a truly world class player there. I don't think he was aided by having absolutely noone attacking with him

He's a dribbler in every sense of the word and that's why no one will improve his passing & finishing. There isn't a brain in his head.

Thats not a very nice thing to say.

I for one was always excited and on the edge of my seat whenever he got the ball last season. He was easily the best player on the pitch at times. He just needs to smooth a few rough edges and he will be brilliant. KEEP HIM HERE.

It's not just smoothing a few rough edges though. It's thoroughly improving massive flaws to his game. Is it even possible for him to learn those things? If the coaches at the club doesn't think so then move him on. If they believe they can teach him then by all means keep him.

It is definitely possible to teach a player to pass and finish, in fact it's probably the easier of a larger set of skills to train. I've coached a lot of players (although I'm not active in coaching now) and it is reasonable to see dramatic improvements in those attributes with good coaching, game exposure and in this case playing against opposition closer to his current level should benefit Traore.

If we are talking £15m I'd take it, but it'll cost more than £8m to replace him with someone who could end up more or less productive. He's a gamble but you're not going to get guaranteed goals and assists for that money anyway.

For what it's worth, you absolutely cannot teach the kind of pace he has and his effortless ability to beat a man. But it is also very difficult to teach football understanding, and that's my one issue with him is that he doesn't look like he has that innate understanding of the game. They did a sports science study a long time ago and estimated that when Rooney looked down from the pitch he would know where his team mates would move and be located 8s ahead. That's "football intelligence" so to speak, it does improve a lot with game time but i don't know if it will enough. People forget that the same things were said about Raheem Sterling in his first couple of years a*** many others.

I'm in the stay camp because I really think he's got something and at £8-£12m we can't replace him with proven quality.

That's the thing though his end product isn't even that bad, I seen him put enough decent crosses in to not be concerned.

The frustrating thing with him is when he refuses to run in to space or holds on to the ball far to long. Also when faced up with a wall of defenders if he can't run through them he won't come up with a clever pass and move sequence etc.

This isn't a worry as at his age for the type of player he is it's not out of the ordinary, I felt he needed players around him just to give him an easy pass sometimes. I think it was against Burnley he ran at their defence and also played a few one twos almost getting through the whole team a couple of times. If we can do that more often it will only benefit him.

What he has is very hard to find and acquire for a team like us and I'm almost certain we can build on his qualities.

Of course he CAN pass and shoot, but it't the process of his brain thinking it and his feet actually doing it. He's played football his entire life and been surrounded by great coaches yet it still seems like he doesn't know where he is or where his teammates are when he is done dribbling around players. Can he be taught that? I have serious doubts about that, and thats why it's all about the alternatives. If the alternative is Burke or Jota then by all means sell, but if it's another unproven player that needs teaching or an old Downing type player then by all means keep him.

Found this article with plenty of words from the man himself. Pretty sure he mentioned something similar even earlier on in the season about working hard even in his own time to be in peak physical shape. And I think that at the very least showed.

A few early successes, such as one or two assists, a goal or winning a penalty will boost his confidence and a confident player is a far more dangerous prospect. Couple that with a pre-season to get used to the managers ideas and we could see a whole new side to his game.

Sky Sports reports that Weat Brom are in talks with Jay Rodriguez from Southhampton for a deal in the region of £12mil.

1: I'm a massive fan of his. Would love him at the Boro.

2: Would bring Premiership experience and finishing to our team next season and would easily transition back to Prem (hopefully the next season when we're back). Although I can't see him dropping down to the Championship if he has Prem interest.

3: Paper talk is that Assombalonga would cost a similar fee (albeit lower wages) and he's never played in the Prem.

Championship money is crazy!

In fairness to the lad, he'd barely played a game in this country before this season and it's widely regarded as the fastest paced and most physical league. If he seems like he doesn't know where he or his teammates are (which I don't disagree with), my personal point of view is that he has had a lack of game time. For a 21yr old, he hasn't played a ton of competitive football and his only real exposure before Boro was Barca B. We play an entirely different brand of football and we're expected to lose a lot more games than we win. It's usually much easier to judge a player like that by his improvements on the training ground, which of course we don't get to see.

Again, I'm not ready to give up on project Adama. I can see why some people would though. He's certainly one of the more polarizing players we've had over the past few years.

I really wanted us to move for Jay Rodriguez last year. Would've been an absolute revelation on our left flank. It's another of those 'what ifs' after our relegation though...
