Boro v Reading (a) 2-0 (Leadbitter (pen) Assombalonga)

Recommended Posts

Good first half, would love it if we shut them out and kept this result. Assombalonga sounds like he's been a nuisance, ideal trait for a no 9.

Much more involved today than he has been recently. Him and Braithwaite keeping the pressure on their back 4 and it's a good job because that's where the ball has spent a lot of time whilst in their possession.

Reading can barely get out of their half and we've made sure that's the case often enough. All it takes is one chance at this scoreline though and it could be 1-1. A second goal is a must.

To add to this Assombalonga is basically the entire reason McShane is throwing a paddy any time the ball comes towards him, he just can't handle him at all.

McShane won a foul at the end of the half there and celebrated like a goal had gone in with a roar and a full arm fist pump.

2 chances one on target for us and reading had 2 chances none on target. safe to say utter garbage match. must improve here. we winning but need to cause reading more trouble or it'll end up 1-1 probably.

Doing well with the pressing and not letting them play but we have be better on the ball if we're to create chances

Think it says a lot that the majority of the ball that I remember Aluko getting was in the centre circle.

2nd half could be a different story. Hopefully we start the second half well and get a hold on the game again.

The one time Christie doesn't overlap is probably the one time Downing really needed him too.

1-0 leads dont mean a win these days, plenty of reason to be concerned. starting the second half nervy and you can see why.

Reading have us basically pinned in our own box and are cutting through us like butter. Luckily they're even worse than we are at actually creating a chance out of it once they get there.

Fabio is such a bad defender it's almost criminal. Most of the time he has no idea where the ball or his opponent is. The will score from our left.

Don't think it will be long before we see Traore or Paddy for Tavernier.

    • Redcar R I don't think it is down to the boots.  Browne stuck his leg well into the turf with an apparent intention of creating a "solid hip " to lever the player away.  We've all done it ! I was quite surprised that he got injured and tended to assume that it was because he'd used his inside leg to make it less obvious. I've seen a knee go back in again on its own but it is an odd and very upsetting sight to see a knee cap next to where is should be
    • As far as I have read all countries have been put into different tiers and players are awarded points according to league, international games, caps etc. It doesn't matter if you are EU or non-EU. It's easier for some south american players than before Brexit but certainly not easier than a European. https://worldfootballindex.com/2020/12/work-permits-premier-league-post-brexit-english-clubs-efl-libertadores/
