Boro v Barnsley 3-1 (Ayala,Traore,Bamford)

Recommended Posts

Yes. I still think yesterday should have been a greater win than 3-0, let alone 3-1, mind. I actually cashed out my 3-0 bet as soon as Bamford scored, because I was convinced we'd get at least one or two more. It ended up being a good call, but not for the reasons I'd thought!.

hang about then....Say you didn't cash out and then it was us who scored a forth.... are you with the rest of us cheering our heads off or are you shouting at the ref and calling for an offside?

Once he'd cashed out, I imagine the bet wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference. :D

Well as soon as Bamford scored I didn't want to have to face that quandary, so cashing out just made sense!

I thought 3-0 up we could hit Barnsley for 5 or 6 we were cruising, but after poor goalkeeping for the Barnsley goal, it seemed to knock our momentum and we allowed them to come onto us, hitting the post and a penalty shout near the end.

Traore takes some stopping when in that form, we were top notch 1st half but a bit below par 2nd half but its 3 points in the bag, and so it should be at home against a side trying to avoid relegation.

I thought for Barnsley, McBurnie looked head and shoulders above any of his team mates he was dangerous at times with some good runs into the box.

Its now definitely in our hands but sit back and defend deep when we come up against the better sides and we'll get done.

The second half does not make good reading...

I could try and make an excuse as it is 8.25 pm here and I’ve had a busy challenging day. But I won’t. No offense taking.

Low post count for the thread compared to recent games though it does drop when we are on a winning streak!

I wouldn't, given you were corrected by someone who's first language isn't English.

You've certainly managed a hell of a lot of unintended irony here, like. Though I certainly don't think it has come down to intelligence.

Wow  :omg:

A low point in anyone's life - being made to feel stupid by Will and Wilson.  The kind of humiliation that you just can't come back from

He almost never played on the left in 15/16, it was on the right or up front.

I don't remember a single game that he played on the left that season, he started on the right until we played Derby in early December and that was when him and Vossen started playing as a pair upfront after that.

Yeah I should have just said out wide rather than on the left.  I was looking at it ages ago and remember seeing him being listed as having played out wide in games where he played up front.  For some reason they put Vossen and Tomlin up front and Adomah and Bamford out wide in a kind of 4-2-4 formation I think.

    • Wyke and someone like Waghorn or the Bristol lad.  If we stick with Warnock I want strikers he will use and use well. So two of them and then Akpom who may benefit from being alongside a target man. Thats assuming Fletch leaves.
    • Probably, I naively assumed that people wouldn't edit pictures minutes after the goal.
    • Well, Bettinelli actually did ok last game, so he can get in my team this game. A back 3 of Dijksteel, Fry and Hall Fisher and Johnson as wing backs - Bola needs a break. He is very much a great player, but Johnson will do better in this game and Bola needs the resting. Center mid pair of Howson and Paddy - Was actually good against Cardiff A front three of Kebano, Watmore and Tav  This team should be able to run over the Sky Blues
    • Older targetmen like Rickie Lambert, Daryl Murphy and Glenn Murray etc didn’t peak until their late 20’s to early thirties so I aren’t concerned about Wyke being 28 year old. Targetmen is a role that players just seem to peak a bit later than others for some reason. League One has consistently produced some excellent players, certainly strikers, so Wyke deserves respect for his high number of goals this season. Just because he’s an ex-academy lad, it doesn’t diminish his achievements as he has made a great career for himself since leaving Boro. The majority of released and sold academy players have left us and gone in a downwards - some even dropping out of professional football completely. Wyke on the other hand has been on a steady upward career trajectory for a long while now, so it says a lot about his personality and development for him to now be among the top scorers in League One. Wyke will have been a far better fit for our team this season than any of our current strikers. Being a big, physical presence in strike is a massive boost to being successful in the Championship. Someone like Wyke won’t get bullied out of games or be left isolated and unable to hold the ball up like Assombalonga has for the vast majority of our games. We’ve been crying out for a targetman all season to bring the best out of Warnock’s preferred style of play, so Wyke would be a huge tick in that box.
    • Yeah we couldn’t get the permanent deal done in time so he sign on loan then we completed the deal a few days later. My memory is fuzzy but possibly after the window shut. the two in question went from Boro to Coventry.
