Summer Transfer Window 2018.

Recommended Posts

Now Braithwaite's confirmed as staying it kind of changes things for me when I grade us if we turned around and let him go it'd be a C- but he's a key player for us I think he's very valuable to us.

Positive points to our business:

Flint, Saville and McNair are great long term signings no matter the division we're in they're a future spine of our team

Good loan business we have options on Hugill and basically Besic but no obligation if we fail to go up, the other 2 McQueen and Batth could contribute as well

By pure transfer fees since we got promoted we're now I the green across the past 5 windows

Got good money for Gibson, Traore and Bamford

Kept Braithwaite and didn't tie down Robson Kanu/Adomah to long term contracts or get old pros on big contracts

Negative points:

Really missing pace in wide areas unless Chapman/Tav blows us away with cameo's that hurts us not having wide outlets

No specialist RB cover and Clangergan no better GK cover than Dimi hopefully DR stays healthy

Still have nearly 15 million pound invested in a pair of strikers, 1 of which has persistent injury problems and the other has alot to prove

Seemed to have lost out on alot of targets the feeling of what if lingers around at the moment but rarely is there a window we don't miss out on a few this summer seemed like we missed out on more than a few

Squad grade: A-

Grading our spine against the rest of the division's contenders the options we have at CB, CM and striker I'd say we have the most depth, quality and variety across those positions out of any other club in the division it's the bits around that where we're missing the top quality but I'd rather have an unbelievable spine than a couple of incredible flair players like Grealish/Bolasie/Abraham yet have a highly questionable spine that they're playing off like Jedinak at CB.

Overall window grade: B

Marcus Maddison is for sale, when he signed his new contract last year their chairman agreed to sell him if they weren't promoted this year.

But we should absolutely not pay over the odds for him. I’m sick and tired of the amount of times other clubs have our pants down over inflated transfers it’s embarrassing

In un- related news. I think Uwe is really under appreciated poster on this forum

I remember this one from you Will. Seems to back Rich’s post up :)

Something seems off about this, but I just can't quite put my finger on it.  :liar:

Seem to remember plenty of posters moaning about the fees we paid last year and then this summer I’ve seen quite a few posts where someone has said we should have just paid what the wanted or what the agent demanded.

Pulis has backed Braithwaite to knuckle down and be important for the team. Doesn’t sound like sour grapes on pulis’ part so if Braithwaite is ready to deliver 100% he will play. Come back from the international break focused and he could have his place back in the attack. Good news after all.

Pulis said we wouldn’t let Braithwaite go

Well we can't now can we because we haven't got a replacement in for him.

Staggering that over the course of the summer we've been unable to sign attacking players with the exception of Hugill who is an inferior player to the striker we sold.

is he?

Yeah.

really? funny how the majority of managers he's played for don't agree he's worthy of a starting place. but, guess, you know better!!

You said it.  With all of the great work we've done in the transfer windows over the last couple of years they probably don't need me though.

He's already been appointed to the most important position - the position in my heart. (the pays ***e mind)
