Summer Transfer Window 2018.

That thing about Gibson attempting to dribble is the same thing I love about Ayala. He might be a tall, hard, old school *** but that lad can bring the ball out. Hell, I still remember his run down the right wing :D

With Villa's financial plight, apparently £75m needs to be made up this season... and Traore looking increasingly likely to stay for this season. If there is a sell on clause in his contract, would it be prudent to offer say £1m upfront to get rid of the clause?

Newcastle fan at work has just told me they are after Albert Adomah.

BirminghamLive says there is a 20% sell-on clause in Adamas contract. As someone else mentioned earlier we may be able to negotiate that out if he is still here come the end of the transfer window as Villa badly need the money. Best scenario is Traore stays, signs a new contract and we pay off Villa to remove that clause.

If he's staying why even bother removing the clause? Put the money towards a player instead. Then if we do get promoted he probably would sign a new contract.

You don't think we can maybe sell him in the future?

If we don't remove it it will still be there in the future even if he signs a new contract. If we can exploit Villas financial woes we can potentially save a lot of money. Southampton missed out on a lot of money when Spurs sold Bale to Madrid as Spurs offered them a bit of money to remove that sell on clause at a time when Southampton was desperate for money,

The Gazette refuted that claim on Twitter not long ago, didn't they? Said something along the lines of it being their understanding that the clause became inactive when we were relegated or something. Can't remember specifically what was said but it's their understanding that no such clause remains active.

That was about the supposed release clause of £18m, which I guess is probably only active for 1 year from being relegated.

We most likely will sell him in the future I'm just saying promotion is our main priority and every penny counts when it comes to getting players in.

To estimate how much the clause is worth Villa will put their own value on traore which would be around £25m, they would ask us for £5m to cancel the clause, even if we negotiate it down to £3m it's not the kind of money we can afford to just write off.

Ah right yeah, that was it, my bad.

It would be 20% on any profit, so say we go on the £18m price quoted it would be 20% of £11m which is £2.2m. They have really bad cash flow problems so if we offered them £1.5m upfront I'm not sure they could turn it down. Think it would be a wise investment for Gibbo because he could go for a much bigger sum in the future...

Well why not just do that next summer or even January?

Even £1.5m is a good players wage for a year.

If we have the money available then yea go for it just don't think it should be a priority if at least for now he's staying.

Which would also explain that it was Boro all along who released fake news that there is an 18 million clause in his contract :)

BREAKING: Birmingham have been placed under a transfer embargo after breaching FFP rules during their spending spree last season when they signed 13 players! Birmingham will face further punishment if new signing Kristian Pedersen plays after the EFL declined to register him!

That's a blow for us trying to shift Johnson and Fletcher to Monk.

Neil Bausor completes the plot twist by lifting off his mask to reveal he was really M. Night Shyamalan all along :omg:

    • well seems Braithwaite will be able to get another mega contract and be spending half the time not playing
    • Could be 30-40% of profit due to the hit we took on our original fee.
    • I get what you mean. I have seen both be reported before. A club getting a % of total fee and a % of profit. Maybe % of total fee only comes in to play once selling club sells above a certain figure? Either way if he goes we will be due a % of £11m (Leganes profit) or £16m (total fee). And either way i expect it to be a 6 figure sum we get.
    • Is a sell on clause usually on total fee? I’d always assumed it was on increase in selling fee over what previous club had sold player for I.e. on profit the selling club makes. If it is on total fee then a club selling a player on at fee they paid would actually make a loss, after deducting any sell on fee. That seems odd?
    • Haha i hink in the cold light of day you would reconsider that stance. I dont think i dislike any player in the world to extent i would disregard £4m coming our way. I also dont think it is £4m. His release clause is £16m so dont think there would be a 25% clause. I would say more around 15%. Which is still over £2m which i would happily add to our transfer kitty for summer. What happens to Braithwaite i could not care less.
