Barnaby 957
Would anyone take Tom Huddleston? I'm not a fan of how he seems to just saunter around the pitch but on the other hand the way he sprays the ball around is quality. Thats what Souness used to do in the 70's
Jimmy 140
Am I the only one who is completely confused about what Howson adds to our team? Some games I don’t even realise until about 60/70 minutes in, that he’s even on the pitch. In my opinion, he adds absolutely nothing, just another midfielder that’s too comfortable to play everything sideways. He and Downing were the main reasons for our complete lack of creativity last season, in my opinion. I really hope we start next season with neither of those two in the starting line up. Saw glimpses of a really good footballer for me, some games he played really well probably without getting the credit he deserved. That being said went missing far too many times. Needs to be more consistently involved in the game. I think the midfield needs a revamp and more structure to it. One specified CDM and then two infront, and actually getting forward. We've seen at Norwich that he's good at that and contributes to goals and assists. For me this year Clayton/Besic/Howson midfield just didn't work. Clayton and Besic are both CDM's both trying to play the same position. I'd have Besic as CDM (if we decided to sign him), then Howson and another attacking mid in front. A very inconsistent season which he put down mostly to Monk. Expecting a much better season this coming year. He was pretty average under Pulis as well to be fair, Clayton seems to be the whipping boy on here but he was our best midfield player in the playoff games (when it really mattered). I reckon Clayton is the best midfielder in the championship in his position, as an anchor man to protect the back four, breakup counter attacks and win the ball back he's excellent. What needs to change is the 2 in front of him, if we got in 2 dynamic, quick midfielders who at more attack minded, can pick out a pass and can create and score goals then we will be far better off but for me we need to keep Clayton

But the third midfield spot needs to be more of a creative/goalscoring type if we have Besic and Clayton.

Criticising his goals and assists is like criticising a striker for not keeping clean sheets.

Howson Besic /Downing / and two more signings would be ample to contest the central part. upfront were ok with what weve got . if we manage to hang on to Adama he may suit the head of the diamond or in a free role just off the attacker . the only other area wed need to adress with this formation is a replacement for Shotton (with him as CD back up) to play a similar style to Friend / Fabio and maybe a good quality replacement for Gibbo if he leaves. Surely you get in the players you want as quickly as possible, then look at your squad at the end of the summer and see who you don't need?

Surely you get in the players you want as quickly as possible, then look at your squad at the end of the summer and see who you don't need? I don't think that's always the case, Tom. I think sometimes (and something Pulis himself has said) your squad is too big. You essentially have to carry them throughout pre-season despite knowing if all things go your way, their days are numbered. I don't particularly see Pulis wanting to add to the size of the squad before reducing it. Really depends on who's interested in the players you want to offload too, you may end up accepting a loan deal where you continue to pay most the player's wages just for the sake of giving them an out. Having said that, I don't think we'll be holding onto a number of players for long. Braithwaite, Barragan, Johnson and (for his own sake more than ours) Fletcher will hopefully have their futures sorted ASAP and we won't have that problem anyway.
