Summer Transfer Window 2018.

Recommended Posts

Well I think this next week is going to be one of the busiest on here with incomings, but more intriguingly outgoings. Pulis keeps stating he wants 18 senior pros and 4 young lads. If we are after another 6 incomings surely we would need to shift 5 or 6 not including Gibson and Traore. I am guessing Britt, Braithwaite and Grant but who else may be off. Cant see Clayton going but maybe Howson. I think we are going to have an exciting season with a much changed squad

So we've got Gibson and Traore set to leave, Ayala on long-term sick and a group of 4 strikers who Pulis doesn't rate.

Out of those strikers Braithwaite doesn't want to be here, we massively overpaid for Britt and Fletcher so we'll lose money on them when we eventually get rid and Gestede is completely useless.

We've still got no creativity in the squad and the likes of Downing, Friend and Leadbitter are on big wages while not being good enough anymore.

Those who think we'll be chasing promotion might need to readjust their expectations, this feels like a 12 month rebuilding job and Pulis has 24 hours to try and do it.

This feels like 1986 all over again

If Gibbo goes who gets the captaincy? Friend might lose his place if we sign Bryan.

It's going to be Downing isn't it ..................

I would give it to Clayton, if he is in the team

Confession to make, I thought the window closed today, that's why a few of my posts probably sound like I'm overreacting a bit! Ha ha

West London Sport reporting that sources have said QPR will sell Freeman if the price is right and Boro are in talks with QPR. Sounds like that could be one to watch out for.

Presumably the lack of mention means Adama has?

It's from our old friend pink ponce, if I'm right to say. Tends to keep his knowledge to himself these days but always seemed pretty well placed.

    • Maybe you're right mate! I hope so. I'm basing my views on the performance of recently promoted teams (and teams in other countries around Europe!) and how they play. There's a lot of football clubs, at the moment, who are battling it out with the traditional big boys (RB Leipzig in Germany, Atalanta in Serie A, Leicester in the UK) through great long-term planning and style, and I'd love for Boro to be a success story for once!
    • Not at all but let's stop talking about Europe when we've spent 1 season in the top flight since 2009. Right now its not realistic.
    • I think you misread my post or maybe I didnt explain what I meant very well.  My point is that the best we could probably do would be to appoint someone like Eddie Howe. He'd play brilliant football but we'd still get battered on a regular basis in the top flight and battle every season to stay up.  The days of European football are pretty unlikely in my opinion. Look at the players we bought in that era, the best 3 players that Villa had for a start. Southgate, Ugo and Boateng would cost more than 100m nowadays and we bought them before we added the flair players.  Fair enough if you want a fresh start, let's try and find a manager who will play good football. But in terms of league positions the best we can hope for is what Bournemouth did or Brighton are doing in my opinion, unless we get more investment. The days of spending our way to Europe are long gone.
    • Yeah? Am I a Burnley fan?  They play direct football, their long term plan seems to have been to underfund their manager and just hover about in the league and get knocked out of the cups. Even when they were briefly in Europe, they didn't plan for Europe. I'm sure everyone on this board would swap places with Burnley in a heart beat.
    • You don’t think Warnock can get us promotion? I do. And for me that’s taking the club forwards. Don’t give a crap how we do it or what brand of football we play. I bet all the Cardiff fans are outraged that they signed McCarthy the dinosaur. Getting promotion should be the main aim of both the club and the fans. We can worry about changing style or whatever you want to call it when we have £180million in the bank. Just focus on getting out of this league for now, it doesn’t matter how.
