Sky sources: Adama Traore to have medical at Wolves on Monday ahead of club-record transfer from Middlesbrough. #SSN

The one post I’ve been dreading all summer. **** sake.

Presumably dreading but expecting? Did anyone really think he'd stay after we didn't go up last year?

It does appear that our hands haven't been forced by the clause though.  So either we wanted the money or he wanted out.

Based on what? Our stellar brand of football? How many times have we gone to Portman Road and been done over in recent years? Hell, Brentford have been on the cusp of promotion year-on-year having spent a fraction of what we have. I don't know how people can turn their noses up at clubs like this just because we used to be an established Premier League team. We sure aren't anymore.

I'm not turning my nose up at them.  I have plenty of time for both clubs and for Peterborough as well as it happens.  You compared us unfavourably with the three of them and that's what we're discussing here nothing else.

Brentford haven't been on the cusp of promotion year on year.  They've finished in the Championship play offs once.  Other than that they've finished 9th/10th.  If we finish 9th/10 will you say we were on the cusp of promotion because I bet you wouldn't.  Their best season (5th) is where we finished last season in what many would say was a 'bad' season for us. They operate well on a budget and with a philosophy that I find interesting but if the measure of success is on the field then they haven't quite got there yet.

Ipswich are a club I'd put on a par with us in terms of size although they've been a bit more successful than us historically speaking.  I think you'd be hard pushed to find many of their fans talking about the great football they've played recently.  They've had financial issues and have had to do things a certain way but they've been nothing other than a mid-table side for while now, with only one play off finish that I can see in decade or so.

I guess for me I don't see the difference in finishing 10th in the Championship and losing the Play Offs. The fact is, unless you get promoted, you weren't good enough. Every team from 5th-10th is, usually, pretty comparable in quality. And I know it might sound absolutely mad, but I'm not really a football fan for the success (or else I'd've given up with the Boro a long time ago). I want to see my hometown club build a team that plays good football, gives its all, and seems to have a well-run philosophy. I'd honestly rather take 10 years of that in the Championship than that one HORRENDOUS year we had in the Premier League (which was the most disillusioned I've been with the team since the Strachan days.)

I would love to have the plans of Brentford and be just as successful. We should stop making big transfers and just go after cheap outcasts and unknown freebies in the hope that some of them might turn a profit sometimes. It’s a very good plan never to really challenge the promotion race.

. No one is suggesting do exactly the same thing, but that a strategy other than sack the manager and sell/sign a team worth of players - or even better something innovative like Brentford (read the article) - is a better approach.

How many people who are stressing over the possible signings we could be about to make were happy when we spent a large amount of cash on Adams? Sometime the clubs scouting can pay off (though admittedly nowhere near as often as it should!)

There's a few places difference technically speaking and we did get promoted so again that would put us ahead of them recently.

I'd love to see us playing good football as well, I'm not sure that's going to be likely for a little while at least.

I expected to lose one top player and use the funds to build on what we achieved last year.

Instead we've sold our three best players and have yet to see any return for them with 4 days left. This hasn't been a building on last season it's been a demolition. And for a 3rd year in a row were starting from scratch.

What a shambles. ... we sell a player who wanted to go (paddy), one who we clearly gave our word we would sell if he gave us 1 more season (Ben) and look like selling a player with a well documented release clause to a premier team who will probably increase his wages. Then to cap it all a player who most didn’t want may now go somewhere else. The club is blamed for this in part because we didn’t just cough up the dough for this player weeks ago.

Get a grip ladies. If a player wants to come here he will, if not he won’t. Nothing to do with scouting or anything else on this occasion. After all if he was crap why would derby want him.

Few days to go in the window. If it closed now with what we have left you would have to say that top 6?would be tough but not impossible.

It does appear that our hands haven't been forced by the clause though.  So either we wanted the money or he wanted out.

Or they gave us the option. 18m now, 25m over the next 4 years. We lose him either way, but get to pick how.

If we don't accept the 25m, then they pay the 18m.

Except the whole reason they asked us to pay in installments is because they couldn't / wouldn't pay 18 up front for FFP reasons.

Yeah pretty much. Always had a feeling that we could have persuaded him to to stay for just one more season. As they say, it’s the hope that kills you...
