Summer Transfer Window 2018.

Recommended Posts

Been in a meeting since the morning. That was a fun 30 minute read of this threat. Looks like we are making some serious progress today. Signing Besic on a free is very good. Don't know much about either Freeman or Wallece but at least we are adressing the right areas. Interesting to see what happens with Bolasie. Having him and Braithwaite as the wide players would certainly make it interesting.

Only concrete stuff is Besic set to sign on either loan or permanent and Cuco Martina also supposedly signing on loan to cover defence.

Mooted bid for Freeman and said to still be in talks with Everton about Bolasie, Everton themselves have said a loan doesn't suit them so probably a permanent being lined up.

We are signing Everton’s reserve team.

In reality:

Besic looks close. Was rumoured to be a loan but now looks like a permanent £6m deal.

Cuco Martina heavily linked to a loan deal.

Still lots of talk on Bolasie. One report of a loan with a £1.7m loan fee. Sky sports reporting they won’t accept a loan and want him sold permanently.

Lots of rumours doing the rounds about Jed Wallace and Luke Freeman.

For me, at this stage, perfect scenario would be Besic permanently, Bolasie on loan, Martina on loan and Ritchie permanently. Would be delighted with that. Can’t see that happening at this late stage though unfortunately.

If we land Besic and Freeman,

Besic, Freeman, Howson, Clayton, McNair, Wing

Has to be one of the best pool of CMs in the league?

I think we sign one Winger today. Another if Braithwaite leaves before he end of the month.

Freeman can play anywhere across the line behind the striker, so if it's him it adds versatility and Championship experience. Much more affordable in the long term than a permanent deal for someone like Ritchie or Phillips, so wouldn't affect FFP in future seasons if we remained in the Championship.

Didn't someone used to update the front page with the ins, outs and rumours? Rather than 23 people posting the same thing in a different order? :)

I'd be so happy to get Mo back here as our own player, love that lad. :)

Besic

Freeman

Bolasie

Martina

Wallace

And still a possibility of other loans in the loan window. I'd be buzzing with that.

I'd rather have Byram than Martina, but either would suit what we need in that position.

    • If I were a pessimist I'd say that 3 points are essential in this so I'd be predicting a 2-1 loss in typical Boro fashion... Although as a self proclaimed optimist I'll say a tough grindy 2-1 in our favour!
    • The thread title is probably my fault - as @Changing Times says, I'd posted a thread asking if it was time to abolish the FA. Maybe we need to keep that thread at the top of the board, so the correlation between that one and this is more obvious? Then again, apart from the title, nothing that's been said over the last four pages would come as a surprise to anyone at MFC. It's not like we're talking about chasing SG out of town with pitchforks, or hanging an effigy of him from the Transporter Bridge. Everyone knows what we achieved in the Noughties, but there's been one misstep after another for over a decade. That needs scrutinising, and our supine local press clearly isn't up to the job. Incidentally, since people in positions of authority apparently read this forum, I'd like to say hello to anyone at Red Bull who's reading this. Your drinks are excellent, and we would be delighted if you bought our club. Pleeeeease?
    • Considering we've had to play the top four sides, with a paper-thin squad and none of our transfer deadline day targets plus several injuries in key positions, I think we've started really well. Even the best managers need time to work their magic - Aitor tightened us up defensively almost straight away (as has Warnock), but it takes far longer to work on attacking flair, intuitive passing and clever set-pieces. Also, the team's confidence will be rising with every battling draw, sneaky win and clean sheet. I've seen mediocre teams on paper go on incredible runs because confidence is high and so winning becomes a habit. I wouldn't bet against us becoming one of the league's form teams as the season progresses, especially if we can sign a CB, LWB and CF in January.
