BORO. Puncheon thing still needs some work. Cost of loan an issue. Big day for them here.

Id still rather we just went and paid the money for powell. Final year of his contract. 10 years younger than puncheon. 5 million quid (less than saville??).

Puncheon seems very short term.

Didn’t think Wigan were selling? WBA had 7mil rejected yesterday apparently

Then he is free to talk to club's in January. I hope we are all over that (though I doubt it).

Issue for January is who will want to come with the manager position unresolved?

Not English clubs. Can only hold contract talks with English clubs in the last month of his contract

If we only end up signing Saville and Puncheon today it actually wouldn't be such a disaster as some are making it out to be. We've signed McQueen who can cover both LB/LWB/LW and there's McNair who can cover RB/RWB. I think we've pretty much got cover for all positions and we have enough to keep us ticking over until January where we can reassess and spend some of the money we have brought in this window. Wouldn't be surprised to see us keep hold of the likes of Tavernier, Chapman, Fletcher and Johnson if we don't get anyone else in who are more than capable enough at this level if required to fill in.

Yeah I agree, its hardly a disaster if we can get those two over the line. The wingback formation should have us there or thereabouts in January where we can hopefully pick up a couple more in the areas of need. People saying we can't keep up the current level... why not, could say that about literally any team in this league, who has better depth than us - maybe Villa? Leeds, WBA etc would all be screwed by a couple of key injuries too.

We have a top keeper, ton of good options at centre half and centre mid, and decent forwards. We're highly organised and lethal from set plays - will beat most teams.

Can't believe we are at the final day of the transfer window and our great "hopes" are George Saville and Jason fecking Puncheon. Depressing.

Is this a 5pm deadline or does it go later?

We're a championship team. How many exciting players have been signed by other teams? Sure Forest signed an expensive portuguese player and villa have signed Bolasie but it's not like it's been hugely exciting for teams around us has it? Saville is a good Championship player who's just turned 25 and scored 10 goals in 45 games in the league for bloody Millwall last season. That's about as good as it gets in this league.

Other teams around us haven't brought in 50m for their 4 best players.

Saville is worse than everyone of our current midfielders bar Wing. Yet we are blowing money on a well stocked position with gaping holes in the squad.

Of course it's depressing.

We're still in the Championship. We're a second tier club. We can't make players join us. We tried with the big money winger from the Prem and he chose to go elsewhere. We're not especially attractive to players above Championship level hence why we are signing one of the better midfielders from last season.

So if that's the case why aren't we signing "one of the better" wingers or full backs from the championship? You know, positions we actually need.

Because we can't make people join us, as BD just said.

The club should sign you two up for the PR team. You're both excellent at making excuses for them.

"TEAMtalk understands Wigan have rebuffed interest in star man Nick Powell in the hope they can persuade him to sign a new deal.

The 24-year-old forward has started the season in superb fashion, which has seen the Championship’s leading clubs – Aston Villa, Stoke, Middlesbrough, West Brom and Derby all keen on landing him.

However, Wigan have decided to take a risk on the former Manchester United man given Powell’s contract is up next June and his value will drop massively up to January and beyond."

Which top wingers in this league would you like to see us go for? I don't really see many decent wingers at this level tbh

Didn’t think Wigan were selling? WBA had 7mil rejected yesterday apparently

Not English clubs. Can only hold contract talks with English clubs in the last month of his contract

With six months or less remaining on an existing contract for players aged 23 or older, they are free to negotiate with other clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement, indicating their ability to move to their intended club on a Bosman transfer when the next transfer window opens.

Unless the rules have changed........

I have to agree with Dan to an extent.

I’m not doubting Saville’s ability. He’s a good player at this level. But he’s not what we need right now so why are we spending £7m and wasting one of our loan positions on him?

We have absolutely zero pace throughout our entire squad and neither Puncheon nor Saville will improve that.

Nixon's making it sound like the Leonard to Millwall thing's completely off and now they're going for Richie Towell at Brighton on a loan they seem eager to do business doesn't seem likely they'll halt the Saville move now Towell seems like it should be easy enough as a replacement.

We've needed pace and creativity for about the last 5 windows which we never seem to address.

However in the club's defence those players don't exactly grow on trees either.

Additionally, with the system we are now utilising we don't really need those players we have been crying out for in the past. As others have said can see Tony persisting with this sysytem until at least January. Not everyone's cup of tea, certainly not mine, but it's proving to be very effective.

Pretty sure it's been the case for a very long time that English clubs can only negotiate with players who aren't based in England 6 months before their contract ends.

I thought that too Wilson. I'm sure you can negotiate with clubs outside of the nation you are based in with 6 months on the contract or less. But only a month for clubs of the same nation.
