Will 2,958
I’m not sure it’s been mentioned in here but due to the amount of talk about it possibly happening FIFA have said that anyone they rule to have got themselves deliberately booker will be given a one match ban regardless of their current bookings. smogsterking the Inspirati 2,487
It seems like an unfair ruling after the tournament has began. If it is declared prior to the tournament then fair enough but it would open a big can of worms. Should teams be penalised for not fielding their strongest 11 even if they are through. Or should players deliberately get a 2nd yellow in the 2nd game if they find themselves in a similar situation to what England were in at half time against Panama.
BillyWoofs_shinpad 1,884
I just think that it would be a far better system to hold a draw for the next round of 8 games, it could still be seeded, a bit like the champions league, there could easily be a 2 day gap between the final group game and the first knockout game, it could even be guaranteed that teams that played on the final group day would get a further 2 day’s rest. It would stop the silly shenanigans of teams wanting to finish second, as the teams that finish top would be seeded. In this day and age with decent transport links and online booking systems, it should be easily achievable. The quarters and semi’s could follow the current system.

richmfc 41
Don’t you think your mind set would be very different if you needed one goal or if you needed two They hadn't scored any goals in 92 mins of play. They then didn't score any goals in the rest of the time allowed. Their mindset throughout the game was that they needed to score and they hadn't achieved it. If only it was that simple eh. We could save time and the ref could just stop the game on 70mins and say no lads it’s not going to happen let’s go home Yeah he could have stopped the game on 70 mins and the Germans would have scored the exact same amount of goals as they'd scored after 1 min, at 92 mins and at the end of the game. Zero. All kinds of things 'could' happen. The game could be abandoned because a massive sinkhole appears. Germany could have scored three goals in injury time and won the game. What actually happened though was that Germany didn't score a goal at any point in the game and the the team that looked most likely to score (and did score) won the game. Boro could win the Premier League title next season but the likelihood of it happening is pretty small. I assumed we were talking about likely outcomes not any possible outcome? The most likely outcome of the game yesterday was Germany not scoring a goal because they hadn't in the 91 mins before the VAR incident and they didn't in the final few minutes after it. I'm fairly sure that was Will's point and it sounds about right to me. Well if a butterfly flapping its wings in America can eventually effect the weather in England then I’m sure not conceding a goal they’ve conceded would effect things in a football march Germany may have scored they may not. But if you wish to be convinced they wouldn’t have then that’s your prerogative

wilsoncgp 9,280
Isn't the problem something to do with organising the next matches? Like, once Group A & B are done on the same day, arrangement can immediately be made with regards to tickets (EDIT: and travel of course, too!) and general stadium preparation for a game between the 2 teams who will be attending a given stadium in the host nation/s. If you did it with seeds and a draw for the next round, you have to wait for every group to finish and doing the draw before planning each game.
MikeyBoro 374
The reported England team to face Belgium: Butland; Cahill, Stones, Jones; Alexander-Arnold, Dier, Delph, Loftus-Cheek, Rose; Sterling, Vardy.

If you did it with seeds and a draw for the next round, you have to wait for every group to finish and doing the draw before planning each game. I know that’s the argument but it’s still possible using online sales and even ticket exchanges. The top seeded teams would all still know there next venue, as they imagine they do now, there are always a few surprises and their fans seem to be able to make it to their teams games in time. Have a 3 day gap if it makes things easier. I think it would be worth it to improve the tournament.
wilsoncgp 9,280
This group is so in flux. A goal from either Poland or Senegal changes it all again.
wilsoncgp 9,280
Well I have to say, Rodriguez or no Rodriguez, I'd rather play Japan in the next round than Columbia. Not particularly great today but Japan didn't even turn up for their game against Poland. Lucky to only lose 1-0 in the end thanks to a top class save in the first half.
