UEFA Nations League:

Recommended Posts

The point is that one of the teams in the bottom set of groups (D?) will qualify - that will be a team that would never qualify under the old system - which buys votes, as all nations in that pot will think they have a better chance.

But the places expansion (at wc and euros) also buys a few votes

So England are in Division A (top), Group 4, along with Croatia and Spain. (Toughest group IMO).

Fixtures:

England v Spain (Sat 8th Sept, 19:45).

Croatia v England (Fri 12th Oct, 19;45).

Spain v England (Mon 15th Oct, 19:45).

England v Croatia (Sun 18th Nov, 14:00).

So the bottom team from the four groups A1, A2, A3, A4 all get relegated to Division B for the next iteration of the competition, which is in 2020 apparently. (Presumably at the end of the year). Seems pretty harsh that a quarter of the teams in the top division get relegated!

League A

Group A1: Germany, France, Netherlands

Group A2: Belgium, Switzerland, Iceland

Group A3: Portugal, Italy, Poland

Group A4: Spain, England, Croatia

I’d say it keeps things fresh in the long run and the fact that you have a four team swing is an added incentive for teams to have a good crack at it. Rather than being happy to toil away in the lower division/group for years on end.

Randolph is getting a lot of practice.

Spare a thought for us Irish having to watch this Billy. It's an absolute horror show

An absolute horror show, although Wales were very good, Bale was unplayable.

From a neutrals point of view it was an entertaining match.

I reckon that Danish team (futsal + lower league players) would have beaten us too!
