lol you're almost a parody of yourself at this point pal, lets reel it in a bit.

Here in a nutshell is why Oneboro activity is down.  Give your opinion and get crap.

Try spending some time and money going to the games and then see how you feel about things.  You might find it's a bit different when you're stretching yourself a bit further than switching on a computer to watch a game.

This is why i no longer post. I occasionally read match threads as a guest.

and surprise surprise you have the same issue as CT. your tone is insufferable, which negates any good points you might be making.

Just get off people's case mate.

no.

What did we think of McQueen last night? He looked quick, got in behind a few times but the end product was lacking. Seems like he could be an exciting one for us though?

Thought he looked good mate, only a cameo appearance so hard to tell really but I liked what he was about. Like you said got himself forward quite a lot, and I think with a bit of game time could be a decent addition for us.

Humpty, you said you don't care what other people on here think a couple of months ago and thus devalued the forum as a place for discussion whilst constantly coming and placing your opinion over those who don't attend the game.

Don't come on here whinging about not being able to give your opinion without getting slated when you have confirmed you have no respect for others'.

Well said Wilson, well said

Unfortunately this is what happens when you play boring football - I'm pleased with the results we are putting together and in general the overall performances - but its not good on the eye and very difficult to get excited about. I think he made the wrong selections - its like he accidentally stumbles on entertaining football and then goes into 'abort' mode. Did I think we would be sitting 2nd without conceding at home? nope - did I think this season could be one of the dullest from a fans point of view for years? YEP but did anyone really expect a full house, singing from the rafters for 90 mins on a Tuesday night against Bolton with Pulis at the helm?  I certainly didn't - its more or less what I expected.

As Duval pointed out, there were plenty of midweek nights like that under Karanka too (atmosphere/style) - which isn't all that long ago.

Here's a genuine question: (And this isn't an anti Karanka thing, so please can those who think I'm being 'against' the guy just take my word for that).

I think I'm missing something, so what I genuinely want to understand, is what is it about Pulis football that people hate, that those same people liked about Karanka's football?

Weight of expectation. Before Karanka we had been crap for so long, just winning games and being near the top of the table was enough to get people back on board - I don't think many could care less what the football was like after finishing 13th and watching the likes of Miller and Killen upfront.

Since then we've been in two play-offs and being promoted to the Premier League, spent lots of money on players last Summer and made a ton of money off sales this Summer. People expect more, and perhaps fairly so when you look at how teams like Watford, Bournemouth, Brighton, and Burnley have all kicked on after their promotions. Where are we? Back to square 1, playing pragmatic football to try and escape this league. Not as exciting second time round - that's my theory anyway!

Karanka (in the championship at least) had a very clear philosophy of having four attacking players and 6 defensive players. A focus on keeping the ball and being very solid without it. This then shifted to 3 attacking players in premiership. In addition, the full backs were pushed right the way up when we had the ball, meaning we exerted pressure on the opposition at all times.

Where we fell down under karanka was our attacking players weren't creative enough a lot of the time. They didn't know how to break down stubborn defences. What I remember most from karankas reign isn't an unwillingness to attack, it was meeting teams week after week who put 10men behind the ball and we struggled to break them down. We did set up to defend when required (Norwich 1-0 stands out) but I never seen him put out a line-up as negative as the two pulis put out against Norwich and Leeds.

We played good football at times under ak in the championship. Tomlin, adomah and ramirez in particular were joys to watch at times. Think the season in the prem has distraction people from that.

I'll clarify my comment. I value the opinion of a supporter that's actually attended the game over those that have watched it on a stream/tv because as a spectator you receive a more rounded view of the game. If that rubs you up the wrong way, so be it.

I've met a lot of good people from this forum but there's a lot of posters running round here with chips on their shoulders, devaluing any kind of decent debate. It can be toxic and it's a shame. I hope it picks up for Alan and Rob's sake.

P.S. bring back the OneBoro twitter takeover.

thought he looked solid to be fair, would like to see him some more, he's meant to have a wand of a left foot.

I WAS there last night, so I am entitled to speak! :D

But I have nothing to compare to, as I lost my Riverside virginity last night, after following The Boro since 93. Better late than Never!

For ME The atmosphere was Good, cause I was bubbling inside... And I did my fair share of cheering.

Some Good moments and 3 points.

Clayton MoM

Martin, Howson and Flint mentionable.

We played some wonderful football under Karanka, don’t understand how people forget this and compare him to Pulis. Couldn’t be two different managers.

I completely get what other members are saying though, I’m happy that tvis team is winning but I haven’t been to a game this season yet (I have a season ticket...) just because I am genuinely bored watching this side, I never thought I’d feel like that about Boro but as someone else mentioned Pulis is sucking the life out of this club. Just like he has with every other club he has managed. I get we’re winning but with a squad this expensive fans deserve more especially when you pay 30 quid for a ticket

Jamesp - you didn't really answer my question at all. What was it about Karanka's football that you thought was wonderful? (To say they couldn't be more different is a bit of a stretch isn't it)?

It certainly didn't seem "wonderful" to me. Bear with me on this one [not a personal attack on AK] but I found his football to be more tedious and boring than what I am seeing now.

That's WHY I'm trying to understand the difference.... because I was/am genuinely not sure why I prefer this [Pulis] but I seem to. (Maybe that will wear off, we'll see).

However, I think that a couple of people have hit the nail on the head... it's possibly the possession side of it. I think I got frustrated with keeping possession and going round and round at the back, waiting for the right ball/chance/pass which often never came.

Anyway.... as such I find it odd that folks hate what we do now, who seemed to like what we did under AK - hence me trying to understand the other perspective.

Think we need to organise a big oneBoro scrap to thrash out all this anger and resentment :)

Although tongue in cheek Jimmy you are not far off the point!! This has happened before during my time on the forum and that is why I have always encouraged pre match meet ups with forum members, though home games are more difficult.

It is often hard to judge people by comments and posts alone because often you have no idea as to the tone of the person posting.

BoroNut mentioned that Humpty was not missed but I for one certainly miss him along with many other infrequent posting members.

Matthew in the past has helped enormously the forum and having met him on a few occasions he really is a decent person and a valued member alongside many others.

Prowler, Red Rocket, Trekkers, ETO, Curtis Fleming to name a few are all nice people to get to know face to face, we have had some great meet ups in the past yet sadly they are infrequent posters now.

Our members away from these shores do not post as regular as they used to, heck I miss Zhimai, Hands of Steel, Boro Abroad and the like and I know many will still be shown as simply "guest" when you look on line.

I too distance myself from the forum at times but this forum is still the best Boro related forum on offer.

Give others there opinions without being too judgemental and get yourself if you can to a meet up because you may find you might actually like the person for real.

Great chance on Saturday because who would not want to meet SmogDane and the enthusiasm he has shown all of us this week.

Thanks mate. I appreciate the response. (I am genuinely trying to get my head around the intricacies of and differences between the two managers and styles).

I agree that we did play some good football under AK. Funnily enough that possibly diminished a bit over time. In fact, having gone well clear at the end of December 2015, and looking like we were [ironically] going to "smash the league".... something seemed to happen, and I think our style/confidence changed. During that run from January - March, and before that whole Charlton thing, we became awful.

I'm going to re-read some of these replies so that I know what's going on !!!

OK. Thanks also..... that makes sense too.

One of my biggest concerns about this style of football, being AK or Pulis, is whether or not it's sustainable in the PL?

If you look at the teams that go up and succeed.... I'd say the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton, Watford, Wolves (at the moment), maybe Fulham - Personally I'd say they've all been much bigger attacking threats than us in the Championship.

If you look at the likes of Burnley**, Huddersfield, Cardiff - they are more of the defend first, score later mould.

I think that playing that way makes like in the PL very tough.

Does anyone agree with that??

Edit: **(I included Burnely, because although they did amazingly last season, they seem to be finding it tougher this year. They've never been prolific, and if their defence starts to falter, I reckon they could be in trouble).
