boro-unger 3,870
Just seen that Take That and Rick Astley are going to be playing in the first concert held at the Riverside in June next year. I always wondered why we didn't hold concerts, must be able to make a fair bit of revenue for the club from it. http://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/2018-09-21/take-that-to-headline-at-riverside-stadium-in-middlesbrough Though it might be a tad ironic Rick Astley singing "never gonna let you down" at the Riverside... wilsoncgp 9,280
Lad at work was in a meeting with the council today and basically said the club have been refusing to let them use the venue for concerts since it opened, wonder if it was down to groundsmen requests. mendieta420 1,006
I have a feeling that Gibson is just open to more revenue streams now. Especially with Brexit coming-up, as a haulage firm owner he must be literally bricking it.
Motor Mouth 255
Well overdue although I would prefer to see groups or singers from around the North East I would imagine if Chris Rea was to have a concert at The Riverside it would be an immediate sell out. I remember this subject arising on the old EG forum and that idea was bandied about then . We all wondered why concerts were not part of The Riverside revenue when we really needed it. Now we find out it was the club that did not want the concerts.? Funny old world init.
boro-unger 3,870
Aye, will be good to have some local gigs without having to go up to sunderland or newcastle if this takes off. Maximo park would be my pick for a local band!
richmfc 41
No idea how much the club would make from a concert but maybe the disruption to the pitch maintainance and extra costs involved meant it wasn’t really worth it
Motor Mouth 255
No idea how much the club would make from a concert but maybe the disruption to the pitch maintainance and extra costs involved meant it wasn’t really worth it I was reading somewhere there would be minimal damage to the pitch because of the heavy duty aluminium panels they use. Just as long as its only down for a few days it should not harm the grass to much being without sunlight and water. They do it at other stadiums and have games straight afterwards. I suppose the grounds man will have a grumble but money is money at the end of the day.
smogsterking the Inspirati 2,487
I did hear from somebody who builds stages for concert venues that when we filled the corners in at the stadium they were too low down to allow the vehicles that are required for move the equipment in. It was a reason a few years ago when they had a children in need concert that it was held in the car park rather than the stadium. I don't know how true this is but I thought it did seem a reasonable considering how much major acts would bring into our local economy.
richmfc 41
Maybe the state of the Wembley pitch last night could be a reason we haven’t had concerts before

Borodane 6,297
There are regular concerts in the Danish national stadium where Copenhagen also play, and the pitch has been atrocious especially after concerts. It's be relaid multiple times and can't seem to cope with the demands. It's really not a very good combination. Maybe at the end of the season when there is a few months for it to recover in decent wheather but not throughout the season.

Motor Mouth 255
If I was Gibbo I wouldn't dare allow the stadium to be used during the season in case of damage to the pitch. First off it would have to be in the break to see how the stadium can cope with one and then speak to the grounds man and see if any damage occurred and how long it would take to repair. If he got answers and they were good then it will be all systems go. But as Rich says first off would like to know if it is really worth it what kind of brass will the MFC make from it. But a great idea never the less it will help the town and surrounding area's work wise and hopefully create extra money for the club . Or just have a Yorkshire Cup knockout competition there are enough teams to do it. Only thing is that would have to be done on the break.
Borodane 6,297
A smashed pitch might actually suit our hoofball style though #cunningplan :omg:
Will 2,958
The stadium of light regularly hosts concerts and the pitch has always looked decent when I've seen it.
