Monk did try to play a front 3 of Fletcher-Britt-Braithwaite with 2 wingbacks providing the width he abandoned it pretty quickly but it seemed to work somewhat. Wonder whether we could see the return of that, it is very Liverpool-esque which is what Woodgate seems to want.

Did it? I just seem to remember we were constantly overrun and looked a bit like headless chickens. I especially remember the away game at Bristol City where they were just hammering us.

seriously mate, it's done.  I think everyone gets your opinions on this...but The club/Gibson have made the decision they are entitled to make, time to move on. you can be angry at the club

FWIW -The Chinese discussions with Gibson were centered more towards Bulkhaul and Rockcliffe. Despite what was said in the media the talks were primary regarding club sponsorship and hotel owners

I don't know whether you've noticed this or not but you have a tendency to recommend Danish people for various things.

I think people dismissed the fact that woodgate is very liked by the squad as a non factor before he was appointed, but if he is liked by braithwaite to the point where he wants to get his head down and play then that could be a massive bonus. seems the type that needs an arm around the shoulder and he could easily be one of the best players in the league.

He’d abandoned it by the Bristol game. IIRC the last time he tried the narrow 433 was the first half of forest away. Against Wolves at least, it looked okay - especially considering it was our first game.

One of the main issues Monk had was chopping and changing the starting XI and formation so much that nobody knew who was coming or going. We've got a new coaching staff as well as the fans expectations and ambitions are a lot different this season which should mean more patience, we could try a similar 4-3-3 with inside forwards.

It depends what Woodie is thinking when he says he really admires Liverpool, is he just wanting to look at their counter-pressing front foot style or is he wanting to imitate everything they do even down to that 4-3-3 formation.

Man city have already started playing against teams with a high press.

They lure teams in and then hit them on the break. I hope this is also at the forefront of our approach.

It's easy to say we're going to play in this way (High press, Possession, counter attack) of what ever is the current trend, but we need to make sure that our players are capable of doing it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how we will go about it and I'm going to judge him after Christmas. I just hope there's a bit more to it than, keeping it tight at the back, high energy and getting in people's faces.

The press will have been told, the players probably. People at Rockliffe might have just seen him coming and going and made an educated guess.

I mean the fact that his odds stayed reasonable right up until the end meant that it didnt really get out until it was broke by sky sports. Lots of people making educated guesses and that's it.
