The Head Coach Thread.

Recommended Posts

Vickers said in that article a couple weeks back that his contract is up this summer, think that’s the first time it’s ever been made public when his contract is up. Gives me a bit of hope that they were told to publish it as a hint.

Funny then how a few people who are ITK have all posted that he's signed an extension while the club wait for Woodgate to get his coaching badges, isn't it?

You're all delusional for thinking we're getting rid of Pulis that easily, even more delusional are the people hoping we'll get someone better in.

Surley it's more delusional to think any so called professional football club would keep in a underperforming manager at there club just to be a stop gap while a inexperienced rookie coach continues to try and pass his coaching courses to eventually to the reins????

Sorry, have you been paying any attention to this season? A more professional football club would have sacked Pulis and gotten in another manager midway through the season.

I agree with that 100%, but there seems to be this consensus that Pulis has a heavy compensation package if he gets the axe, if this is true then maybe Gibson decided to cut his loss and stick with Pulis while his contract runs down?

All I'm trying to say is that I'd be amazed if hes still he for next season

seriously mate, it's done.  I think everyone gets your opinions on this...but The club/Gibson have made the decision they are entitled to make, time to move on. you can be angry at the club

FWIW -The Chinese discussions with Gibson were centered more towards Bulkhaul and Rockcliffe. Despite what was said in the media the talks were primary regarding club sponsorship and hotel owners

I don't know whether you've noticed this or not but you have a tendency to recommend Danish people for various things.

I've heard more rumours about the Pulis situation than I care to remember, from being DoF, to Gibson wanting to sack him but couldn't afford the compensation, to an extended contract. to Woodgate telling family and friends his got the managers job next season.

Its all good patter keeps this thread going..

I was listening to Pulis radio interview and he said something which made me think it has already been decided he is staying. I am not sure if he slipped him when speaking or it is in the lawyer in over analysing someone’s speech too much.

He said the following:

“We haven’t scored enough goals. We have created enough. I put that (the stat) in the programme notes for everyone to see. There is a weakness there we have to fill moving forward”.

The fact he said “we” need to fill this weakness and not the club is what got me thinking he is staying.

The stat he was referring to was the following: "During this season we have had 427 shots on target, above average for our league. However, our conversion rate is the third lowest in the league. Only two teams - who have already been relegated - have a lower conversion rate than ourselves. On reflection, we are creating enough chances to win games, but we are not taking them.

I thought the same when I heard that tbh. Hopefully we're just reading too much into it

He does say the right things but surely you do not retain a manager just because he says the right stuff but does not address the situation, he has passed the buck onto his own players to adegree

Quite frankly DS his tactics from the start have always been defensive.

To defensive for a promotion seeking club .

No matter what players he may not have gotten.

He has shown that the odd small streak of wins on various occasions have come when he as had to change the team and tactic's because of injury's.

That's how Fletcher,Tav and Wing got their games.

If he had not had the injury's then these lads would still have been sitting on the sidelines twiddling their thumbs.

The sooner he leaves the sooner Boro can start moving forward again.

With his statement about shots it's interesting to see that whilst he is correct that we have more shots than average. There's not that much difference in the top 15 with the exception of the teams cemented in the top 4.

What is interesting is that we have the most shots against us with the exception of Wednesday. He doesn't mention this... Is that because we have 8 defenders on the pitch and a lot of shots are just pot shots and low conversion chances. Like our shots....

427 shots on target??? Since when? That's 10 per game near enough. I can't remember the last time we had 10 shots in a game never mind on target. Seem a like another pulis bull*** stat

I looked and it's 617 shots total and 171 shots on target... One things for sure we do take a lot of shots, but watching the games never seems like we should be scoring more than we are.

The shots stat is totally misleading. A shot from the edge of the box is nothing like a clear cut chance. Anyone got our expected goals scored stat?

Can't find it now, but I saw the xG table this weekend and we were only a place higher than we are currently.
