So what’s the general feeling on here?

Are we happy with Pulis, or would we rather someone else was in charge?

Are you taking the pee?

Nope genuine question.

Have you taken a knock to the head recently?

Shall I put you down as a don’t know?

I've been off the forum for quite a while, mainly due to having a baby (not me, my wife!) But I felt compelled to come back and join this debate.

This man is the worst thing to happen to our club in years. I listened to talksport yesterday and as much as I dislike him, Adrian Durham nailed it by saying football would be glad of us missing out on the playoffs because of pulis's football. In truth, we were never ever good enough for the top 6 this year but that's where I get the most frustrated - we should have been a top 6 side by some margin with the players we have.

Traore bailed him out last season, by his unpredictability we got past teams that this year we didn't.the absolute farce in the transfer market - selling bamford, bringing in hugill and van la parra seemingly there just to train with us summarises just how inept he is. We've played 5 at the back at home all season - we are not a side battling relegation. The fact that he just insisted on this formation and the approach when we went on our losing streak is just insane.

And yes, he might have made significant financial savings but that is not what he's employed to do as his primary role - he's here to win us games and he's just not done it enough. I honestly cannot fathom what could possibly keep him here next season, and if he stays we are plunging back into the Strachan days all over again

If he stays I seriously can't see us being in anything but a relegation battle - it's his natural habitat. And for those about to give me pelters, 90% of you all but guaranteed promotion with him, and if we didn't think we would even make the playoffs then we were clinically insane.

Look at it this way, Traore saved his blushes last season. At the start of the season traore was running about like a headless chicken. Now yes, this may mean that he handled traore better than monk, but without him the team would have been bang average at very best....worse than we were under monk, a guy that pretty much everyone said wasn't fit for purpose.

Monk is a better manager than pulis, especially as a promotion chasing manager. Let that sink in

So how does he get credit for the changes then?  I'm confused as to what you're saying.  Is he getting credit for what other people are doing or is he not getting credit at all?  I assume you aren't saying he gets credit regardless of what he does or doesn't do for anything that sees an improvement even though we don't actually know if it has improved?  An article says things have been improved and credits Pulis with those improvements and he seems happy enough to take the plaudits for it but the actual evidence doesn't seem to exist that anything has improved or that he is responsible.

What do you think he's done here to date?  I'd be interested in what you actually think.

I haven’t seen many people giving him credit for it but I’ve seen plenty of people making things up about it to have dig at him.

So because someone knows something you don't they've made it up?

No not always. Just times like when you made up that he said he’d done miracles with the medical department.

When did I say he said that?

I just said I'm surprised he isn't saying that, due to the statement he made in Jan about his involvement in it.

You than asked for proof he'd even said he was involved in any way, which you got, so now you are going to just tediously twist on instead of just accepting you hadn't read the article and were wrong in your post - it's no big deal you know.

I notice he's not banging out about all the miracles he's working with the medical team to reduce injuries and speed up recovery.

Didn’t he? Could have sworn he was saying something along those lines in January.

If he did I’d like to see the quote about the medical team where he says that he’s worked miracles. Even quotes with major/complete changes made to medical team would do.

Here you go...

https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/17359423.pulis-happy-with-overhaul-of-middlesbrough-academy-and-medical-team/

Pulis has also introduced some medical changes. Isn’t anything like miracle, complete or major.

I have no doubt that he has made some changes to the medical side the same as I have no doubt monk made changes too.

Just say "I was wrong" it won't hurt.

My post was a tongue in cheek swipe not a word for word quote.

As you can see in your first comment you did say it and if you read my last comments I ask for proof that he said miracles, major or complete in he’s quotes about the medical department.

I have read the article that’s how I knew it only said pulis has also introduced SOME medical changes maybe yourself and other should read it then you won’t continue to misquote it.

Staggering that anyone can give Pulis credit for anything. Simple fact is that any half decent manager would have got this squad to play offs at worst

Sadly, I see us remaining in the Championship for a few seasons.

I see there being a firesale of sorts in the summer, anyone of value will go, and we'll look to replace them with younger players who have re-sell value, as well as bringing in talent from our academy. This will allow the club to remain financially stable and in time we'll be able to buy players to mount a serious promotion challenge.

This is why I worry that Gibson is going to stick with Pulis or Woodgate (if he actually passes his 'A' Licence.) A brand new manager will want funds to buy his own players and I don't think that's the way we're going to go.

Depends on the manager. Should be plenty of young managers that will happy with a project and long time stability with low pressure

Do you honestly see SG appointing anybody like that?

As much as I want Pulis to go can't agree with this. The squad is deeply flawed, overrun with central midfielders and has no width or pace, whether that is down to Pulis or the recruitment team or both is debatable but the problems lie in both personnel as well as tactics.

Look at it this way - if we kept this exact same squad next year but with a new manager would you be happy?  I wouldn't

Why wouldn't he? Mclaren, Southgate, Robson, Karanka and Monk were of similar ilk.

If anything hes more likely to go to that way of thinking as his "tried and tested" types of Strachen and Pulis have been disasters.

I just can't see this rumoured firesale happening myself our squad as of June 1st really doesn't look full of fat to me take our strikeforce Britt's proven he can be a goal scorer, Fletcher's actually progressing nicely and we'll try everything to move the gymnast on so whoever comes in has 2 strikers to work with I'm figuring they're expensive strikers but they've also shown themselves capable why cut and run on those two now I think we have bigger problems.

The central midfielder thing is a meme at this point but under contract we have got Howson/Clayton/Saville/Wing and McNair if you count him who on earth do you shift there Clayton's the only real defensive option out of the lot.

On the wings we have Tavernier and that's about it since as of this writing Downing's out the door then we have 1 LB and 1 RB maybe 2 if you count McNair. Then Fry, Ayala, Flint, Wood CB?

I'm not seeing an overly deep squad to be honest how much fat could you really trim off that it's threadbare and to sell parts off you'd have to bring in so many extra players I don't see how that would work.

The main problem we have is we have a tight, small EXPENSIVE squad we wont want to cut losses on so whoever we appoint would have to work defensive lines around Flint and have to shoehorn a box to box midfield slot for our 8 million pound Saville while figuring out McNair/Wing into things.

This ain't an easy job we aren't in a situation where we can bring in a guy who plays open football because a high line would not suit Flint or Ayala our 2 most senior centre backs. Best case scenario we get a counter attacking manager who brings in a couple of wingers and makes it work our squad is definitely not full of bad players the problem is it's full of well paid big price tag 'specialists' like Flint/Saville/Shotton I don't see how we dismantle that small expensive squad while bringing in the numbers we need to bring in without selling players off.

We have lots of players contracts finishing this summer. Off the top of my head there's Mikel, Downing, Besic, Van la Parra, McQueen, Besic, Hugill, Lonergan and Dimi. That's a serious amount of wages freed up. However, we'll have Braithwaite and Johnson back here. The likes of Johnson and Gestede will surely be free to leave as they're just not good enough. There's a few big earners who we're surely going to be open to letting leave like for the right deal like Randolph, Ayala, Friend, Clayton, Howson, Braithwaite and Assombalonga but I doubt that a lot of them will leave.

Our team is built with players on wages far higher than their ability and the team lacks any sort of natural balance, so we can still surely improve whilst cutting the budget. We need to learn from the likes of Norwich and Sheffield United.

Asked about what TP has done behind the scenes and I quote from a member of playing / management personnel who is not involved with first team I must add.... looking in we can see no changes what so ever just that our youth programmes are getting seriously overlooked. Take that as you will..
