The Transfer Thread.

Recommended Posts

Our parachute payments ending at the end of this season seems to have played a huge role in us limiting our signings to short term deals and loans. It's a decision made by those within the club, such as Gibson, to try to deal with us still having lots of poor value for money players that we're lumbered with, and we're going to struggle with even more next season without the parachute payments. Gibson's faith in Pulis will have taken a knock after his ineffective recruitment on permanent deals for Flint, McNair and Saville. Plus our chances of promotion are looking pretty low right now.

Steve Gibson's daughter Victoria's boyfriend Joe has been saying on Twitter that our parachute payments ending are the reason for us not spending even more money this window. So I'm fairly confident that this is the rationale for it.

I don't blame Gibson for not spending money now, but for him making so many bad decisions that have led to this, arguably, sensible longterm business decision. The lack of investment this window is the result of trying to clear up the mess left from chronic mismanagement over previous years. We're in a mess predominantly because of that splurge in Summer of 2017 ( shortly after the Gueudiora and Gestede signings). Gibson's reputation is rock bottom. I can't remember it being quite so low. Pulis leaving will be welcomed but I won't rejoice at it because we've got far more fundamental problems that concern me in the long term such as Gibson's ability to make sensible decisions.

With reference to cutting the cloth and GS bad decisions i had made similar statements in another post. We are basically tailoring the club to suit our business plan, that being a Championship club. I don’t see it as a problem as long as we see decent football.

It’s not a problem as long as the fan base are realistic and continue to back the club. It seems that many are not. If supporters think the club has bottomless pockets and that not signing anyone is somehow an affront to them because none of the rumoured signings came off, then the club has a problem.

I like to think that football matches can be won on the training pitch as much as they can in the transfer window. We have a lot of expensive highly paid players and an experienced highly paid coach, it’s time to focus on winning matches, we have 2 new signings to help us do that. If Pulis is more interested in the players that we didn’t sign, than the ones he has to work with, then he’s probably not the right man for the job! Let’s see how that pans out.

I wouldn’t say it’s the worst transfer window ever, I was more concerned about signing some of the players that we were linked with than I was about us signing no one, so on that basis, I’m glad we didn’t blow any money on Madine, Wickham, Crouch or Vassell, none of those would be more effective than the strikers that we already have.

We avoided the temptation of signing more central defenders who would only clog up the bench and stop the likes of Tav getting any game time. The two signings that we have made, should improve the starting 11, so you could argue that the squad is stronger than it was in December.

People are disappointed in Gibson, saying that he’s lost interest, I wouldn’t say that, I think he’s just being realistic and wants to look after the long term future of the club. He messed up 2 summers ago by overspending on transfer fees and player wages in the hope of a quick return to the premier league. I think he wanted to make up for the disappointment of relegation and to make up for the whole Agnew debacle. No one was complaining at the time when the signings were coming in thick and fast!

This summer Gibson backed Pulis to a certain extent, McNair was an easy deal to complete due to the fact that Sunderland needed to get rid of him as they had just been relegated. Saville is a weird one, I assume that Pulis thought he’d be a good investment and love him of hate him, he’s already been earmarked as a future Boro captain by Pulis, I think he’ll get more minutes on the pitch as the season goes on. He bought in Flint to replace Ben Gibson, he’s not in the same class, but at least he starts regularly.

If TP has offered Gibson an ultimatum, I’ll be interested to see how things unfold. I wouldn’t have thought that Gibson would react kindly to threats and if Pulis starts moaning about the lack of transfers things might move quickly.

Anyway Dry January has finally ended and I’m looking forward to a wet February.

If the club come out and say that the books need to be balanced before we have another promotion push I think most people will understand.

The problem that I have is when Pulis inevitably leaves I have no confidence in Gibson appointing the right manager. Teams like Sheffield United and Norwich have shown that you can compete at this level without spending a lot of money as long as you have a good manager and recruit well. We dont do either.

I feel like it's almost inevitable that the club will go on the decline like it did under Strachan and Mowbray, we could look abroad and be creative with our next manager and signings but the reality is we'll be stuck with Woodgate.

I stuck with the club under Strachan and Mowbray and spent thousands to watch football which was totally depressing for a lot of the time. Going to the Riverside was a soul destroying experience and we look to be heading that way again. We don't appear to have learnt anything from last time this happened.

I'm not sure whether I want to spend a lot of money on a season ticket again if the club is in decline. The problem I have is if I don't buy a season ticket I don't know whether I'll even end up going to the game because the walkup prices are ridiculous.

I feel like the club need to have a new manager in place before the season ticket deadline, if it isn't somebody that will inspire the fans then I think sales will absolutely plummet.

Forget about Pulis and his negative formations for a second.

Surely all the fickle fans who are blaming the manager for the past 3 seasons now understand there is massive problems behind the scenes and that Gibson isn't prepared/risk to pump into the club anymore especially when parachute payments finish at the end of this season.

The fans have been let down in transfer windows since 2016 (apart from the summer transfer window where Monk got it all wrong and we are now paying for it!)

Reality is we need to get the big wage earners out of the club before we can spend money. You have players like Gestede on massive wages on a lengthy contract and no other club understandably wants to take them on.

As a lot of fans cannot see the bigger picture, Pulis will take the blame from fans because of his negative tactics. - I understand his 5 cm formation at home is completely ridiculous.

Pulis has also made mistakes like any other manager for example spending on McNair and not playing him.

Fans should be looking closer to home at the messiah untouchable Steve Gibson who has ripped Off the paying customer for the past 4 seasons.

Recruitment team and Gibson are too blame for the lack of pace and attacking within the team as they wanted to cut costs and weren't prepared to spend to get players in.

Speculation stating that Murphy agreed to come on loan, but boro weren't prepared to pay a loan fee backs this up.

Never the less the fans should be supporting the players on the pitch for 90mins and vent there frustration when the final whistle blows.

Gibson will see the effects when season ticket renewals come out and fans stop purchasing merchandise.

I have to say it’s so disappointing that the majority has been led by idiot boys like randy sandwiches who only like to stir trouble under every circumstance. Grow a set and make up your own mind. We’re going up .....

Just bothered myself to scour my posts to see who I had the £100 bet with and as you obviously know - IT WAS YOU!!!!!

hahaha -

I hope you read it all. My bet is on promotion. You changed it to automatic promotion when you got scared that we will go up

Wow you know me so well, coming from someone who is so dense that light bends round them I will take your childish unfounded comment and put it in the same cupboard as all the other f##KS I don't give - you're not the idiot who has the £100 bet with me (who I can't remember)  on automatic promotion are you? As that could explain your playground statement a little bit.

I love the fact you think I "lead" people on here - don't think you will get much support on that one my child.

As for growing some - what a pathetic keyboard warrior statement to make on an Internet forum, where cowards can be kings.

This type of confrontation has to stop and it has to stop straight away.

Having met you both I know if you were to meet as individuals at a oneBoro meet up you would get on very well you both have a passion for Boro.

Deep down this is all down to the turmoil surrounding this club something we have not seen for many a year and that is the worrying aspect.

Just what the hell is going on and I will ask another thing as well how come Victoria Gibson boyfriend is able to tweet comments like he does concerning the finances and our inability or reasons for it?

Stop the fall outs please and finger pointing, it is not worth it  just get behind a hope that things can only get better ( having my doubts though)

Traore got lost on the A19 then, did he?

Although our recruitment process has been horrendous over the last few years, it has still left us with a good squad of players.

The manager just can’t get the best out of them.

Any manager in the championship would be buzzing to take over a squad that contains Assombalonga, Braithwaite, Howson, Clayton, Downing, Ayala, Flint, Randolph, with promising youngsters like Tav, Wing, Fry.

The fact is is that our squad is better than the likes of Norwich and Sheff Utd, but they’re above us and playing much better football.

I honestly believe the reason is that they’ve just got a better manager, who can work with the players that they’ve got. I’m not even massively ***d we didn’t recruit anyone else last night, and I’m glad we didn’t waste money on the likes of Gary Madine.

Pulis is really good at making everyone believe that our squad is terrible, and he is a miracle worker.

I'm just clinging to the hope, that we didn't spend this january because Pulis won't be here next season and it would make no sense spending money when we have to find a new manager for next season. We've made plenty of planning errors the past few seasons and it wouldn't help to buy players the new manager might not fancy. I can't quite wrap my head around not bringing in a loan though. That is a bit weird. Traore was always a massive gamble and one we shouldn't have waited on. I can only assume that Newcastle were demanding a huge loan fee for the last 5 months. Buying him for 11 million is roughly 2,5 million pr. season so you'd expect they at least wanted 1,25 million for a half season loan. Maybe they demanded 2,5 million which is just too much for such a short space of time.

We haven't got much idea about what's going on but we can only hope that we've learned from past mistakes and are actually starting to plan properly. If Pulis is staying until the end of the season we need to be sounding out potential managers right now to get that proces going.

Arteta who is working under Pep currently would be close to the top for me, although he might not want to move from a good job.

If we plan well we can overcome this current mess.

And a very good end to the window for West Brom getting both Murphy and Johansen. Could be two valuable signings for them. I think they will take first place and Leeds in second.
