We look better in building play without Downing and Clayton...

I'm one of Adam Claytons biggest fans and still don't think he was the problem in our team, but holy crap Mikel is a class above. You can see he's not quite as sharp as he could be, he's a second late to a few things but he already looks so much better than anyone else on the pitch IMO.

I can't agree with you more, Thus far Mikel's forward passing has been on point.

Does it look like he's making a difference? Even watching the highlights from the cup game, he looked like he always got his head up for a forward pass.

Agree. I thought Clayton is a good player but Mikel really is a level above

Yes. I think defensively he's still a little slow, but he's in the right positions, but his vision is incredible, he's calm under pressure. He's making the right passes to get out of tight spots, he's made some good forward passes already and this is just the eye test but it looks like he's having a calming influence on the other midfielders too.

Sounds good to me... could end being a very smart piece of business. How nice it would be to say that for once!

West Brom's passing has been atrocious. I actually think we look half decent today but that's probably more down to West Brom throwing plauers forwards and actually leaving us with space to counter attack.

If I had to nitpick on this first half it's that some of Besic's passing has been off. The IDEA has been right, but the pace/power/direction of the pass is always slightly wrong.

    • Not really one to share info but been told tonight there is definite interest in Gibson and both parties want it to happen. This information is from the same guy that told me about Ste Walker starting against Stoke which I posted about in the matchday thread a good few days before. As I say just passing on information but makes it more interesting after Woody’s BBC Tees interview.
    • Just got back (found a nice pub after the game). Eerily similar to the spurs game earlier in the week. Preposterous first half full of errors, lying deep and conceding the midfield. Second half was end to end. Boro supporters in full voice, home fans mustering little. Roberts was excellent, he didn't stop running. Fulham looked dead good though, It took us a full half until we could scare them. I'd like to think a draw would have been fair but I think Fulham were just better (and so they should be). Onwards and upwards.
    • I always thought Reece Oxford was a DM? I swear that’s when he played in that game against arsenal.
    • Woodgate also said that he would have loved to have played a back 4 tonight obviously couldn’t since we only have 1 for centre half.    Personally think Woody wants to go back to the original plan of 4-3-3 as soon as he possibly can.
