Will say this I liked the look of VLP he stormed through the middle of their defence which was great to see and set up another good chance for Britt.

He literally ran out of steam yesterday and at one point he had real trouble getting back into the defensive area.

He does not kid many now and his creative aspect is waning more and more.

Need to really think about who should cover for George perhaps Downing from time to time?

I suggested this the other day, that Downing could do an ok LB .. He is as defensive as one anyway.

He played there quite a bit for Liverpool so he has experience at it too.

I think Downing would be an awful full back defensively. He doesn’t put his head on the line or make blocks - he stays out of trouble as much as he can.

Friend's form?.. For me he's been outstanding most of the season (as has Shotton when fit). The lad has some motor on him, never stops up and down.

Have a feeling vs Leeds we'll start 532, Wing probably sacrificed for Howson in midfield with Mikel and Sav.

Really? Friend has regularly been one of our more suspect players for me. Absolutely no questioning his motor and heart and I love the bloke, but he's often caught out of position and will usually give the ball away in a stupid area at least once a game.

Hes not sure if hes meant to be lw or lb thats my worry with friend. For me id play him as lw as he does make some decent runs forward (shows good heart and drive in games) and find someone more reliable at lb. Get rid of downing as hes too old, slow and stealing a living by passing the ball sideways all game and use his wages to bring in a right winger.

Friend as lw and downing as lb! I’ve heard it all now :) downing is hopefully gone next season and friend as backup regardless of which league we are in.

    • I suspect Woody will try to get players for 4-3-3, since the mythical PowerPoint presentation at his job interview was all about how we'd become the Liverpool of the north (east). The 3-5-2 formation doesn't tend to stay in vogue for long at any club, even though I really like it when deploying box-to-box wingbacks. Ironically, it would arguably suit Liverpool better than 4-3-3 does, as Robertson and Alexander-Arnold can cover every blade of grass and put some wonderful crosses in. They could easily lose a player in midfield and add extra presence in their defence if they switched to 3-5-2. Back on topic, we've needed width and striking options for the last few windows, and nothing's been done about it. If we don't approach these positions as the only priority in January (barring maybe bringing Ben Gibson back on loan, and assuming Randolph stays), we'll get nowhere in the second half of the season.
    • Even at this early stage of the campaign, I think the Player of the Season award is Paddy's to lose.
    • What are you talking about? Sounds like he'll fit right in 😅
    • I've just watched it back as well and think it definitely looks like a penalty... Plus reading the Forest forum they believe it was awarded correctly mostly blaming Robinson for a very poor challenge. Credit to McNair as both the defense splitting pass and penalty are spot on!
    • I just saw the replay of the penalty award. Was it even a penalty? Looked like a tight call between a free-kick and a penalty.
