Summer Transfer Window 2019/20 Season

Recommended Posts

Do we think we'll still be playing 3 at the back next season? Circumstances seem to suggest we will have to, we have 4/5 senior CBs in the squad and we would need 2 new fullbacks and at least 2 new wingers to try and play a 4 at the back system. Whereas if we stick to a 3 at the back system we'd just need 2 new Wingbacks.

Given how seemingly tight things are going to be in the coming transfer windows I can't see us splashing out on a minimum of 4 new starters this summer...

I think well be looking at a 433 if pulis goes. Requires a full back for each side (shotton and friend can provide cover) and another striker to go with britt and fletcher. Something like this -

Randy/new gk

New RB fry ayala/flint new LB

Saville clayton McNair

New forward britt fletcher

Given our reported lack of resources I dont think that's a terrible line up and should have us challenging for the play offs given the right additions in those three key areas. Another centre midfielder will likely be needed with grant gone and mikel and besic likely to follow.

SDS, it’s Dijksteel at Rockliffe

For all those asking about these 4 players at rockcliffe just before weekend. I have done some digging appears it was bola Browne and 2 premiership loan players, sketchy with details but I believe the

Forgetting about Wing and Tav?

I agree though. A 4-3-3 would make sense. Although i think Britt will be gone. Fletcher up front with Wing and Tav slightly behind him. Then in midfield McNair in the middle with Seville amd Howson/ new winger. Even a 4-4-2 would work to get more width in the midfield.

That team does look like it could achieve play offs, I still wouldn't be confident with Fletcher on the wing though always seems like a square peg there...

With Howson, Wing and Tav covering CM I don't think we have a problem there. McNair really does need a run in the team, definitely has the potential to be a standout player in the Championship.

I wonder if Traore might be a loan option in the summer. He is one of the Pulis success stories here. I think Wolves probably wont sell yet but next season I think he will find himself struggling to make the match day squad for them next season.

I'm trying to fathom how he was a "Tony Pulis success story"

Yes he improved when given a run of games in the team, but I remember terms like "headless chicken" been banded about. He was certainly the only player we had with any excitement but I fail to see how he was a success story and I don't see how Tony Pulis takes any credit, AK brought him in for a start.

I look at how many players under perform under Pulis to truly show his coaching skills

I'm in no way a fan of Pulis. But Traores stats are significantly better in the period that Pulis was manager he scored 5 goals and 8 assists in that time. He looked more disciplined and was having fewer "headless chicken" type games. The fact he ran over to Pulis to celebrate some of his goals suggest he may have had a positive impact on his play.

Yep Pulis deserves credit for what he did with Traore - about the only thing he does deserve credit for

I'd rather we just sold Clayton. I think his time here is up and he has been on the decline. He just doesn't offer anything as soon as we have the ball. I know it's a very unpopular opinion but I'd like my midfielders to be able to actually contribute with the ball. And I'm not sure Fletcher is a winger, so I wouldn't like to have him as a starter. I'd definately keep him though but ideally I'd take two new wingers. If money is really an Issue I'd try and get two specialist wing backs an continue with the current formation of 3-5-2 with Britt and Fletcher up top.

Keeper

Wingback-McNair-Ayala-Fry-Wingback

Saville-Wing-Howson

Britt-Fletcher

Both McNair and Fry are capable of carrying the ball out of defence and the three midfielder actually offer us something going forward. Get two quick specialist wingbacks and we'd look much better than we are now but with minimal change.

I'd go along with this, barring Saville. He is bloody awful for me, would love to see Tav given a run there. Still dont think he has the raw pace or ability to beat a man for a wide position but he makes very clever runs, is a quality finisher and technical enough to start as one of the 3.

I don't think Saville is as awful as you make out. While he is obviously not a 7 million pound player he's become more of a utility player than the player he was at Millwall where he was allowed some attacking freedom. We've also seen glimpses of his ability as a goalscoring midfielder and he's got a decent engine to be box-to-box along with Howson allowing Wing more freedom.

Sorry but these teams look awful, McNair and saville suddenly can become 2/3 of a promotion winning midfield?

Fletcher will never in a million years be able to play as the 433 lone striker at the top end of this league.

Tavernier has 80% of the time looked pretty ineffective playing in any of the front 3 positions.

With the strikers we have now our formations for next season are 352 or 442.

No idea how I forgot about wing Haha! Our best outfielder and totally slipped my mind, shows how forgettable this season has been.

If we stuck with the current system i think we need two full backs who are more or less wingers ala Jonny and Doherty at wolves. That shape just does not work if the wing backs arent pushed right up. If we can find those two players then I'm more than happy with that formation, otherwise I'm absolutely sick of the negative 3 at the back and would prefer 4231 or 433. Though I accept both may require a fairly substantial turn over of players, especially 4231

Think your expectations are too high to be honest. We're no longer in the position that well be able to buy the best team in the league, we are going to have a lot of "making do with what we have" if the cutting the cloth rumours are true.

Saville and McNair are untested for me. Pulis has his midfielders play one way and one way only. A new manager could get lots more out of them. I forgot wing and howson from my lineup so there are other options there too. Midfield will be as it is next season imo,and rightly so, unless we are going to start playing a number 10.

If we want to play wingers next season well need to buy at least 3. Also wont happen imo.

I think if we get 3 automatic starters in (2 full backs and a striker/attacker) well be doing well and can push for play offs. That's going to be the best we can aim for with our resources I'm afraid.

I agree that we haven't seen the best from Saville, his best attribute is his box to box energy, being able to contribute to all phases of the game. He was best in a midfield 2 at Millwall where he could cope with the high workload. At the moment he's playing in essentially a midfield 5, they are all doing similar jobs and getting in each others way which is not allowing any of them to shine.

The aim next year should be playoffs, in general I think our squad is better than what it's currently showing though...

I'd like to see us go for players who have performed well for lower championship clubs. Reece James has had rave reviews from Wigan fans, we could probably get him on loan from Chelsea for RB. Säid Benrahma is probably out of reach now but he would be a great buy. 10 goals and 15 assists this season. Prem players who aren't playing but have done well previously in the Championship are probably our best bet. Vydra for example, him and Assombalonga would be very effective IMO. Surely wouldn't cost that much, might be able to flog them Braithwaite.

Reading the Wolves forum they think Cavaleiro, Costa and Traore will all be available in the summer as they predict a big spending spree again and the 3 mentioned haven't really had much impact. Pulis did say Wolves will look after us in future...might be time to call in a favour if he's still here.

Agree with all this, you don’t have to spend a fortune to put a decent side together. Does my head in how people just assume it’s either spend a fortune or ‘make do with what we have’, it’s a load of rubbish.
