Neverbefore 17,072 30.8k
Unfortunately this is football now. Weve made some damn stupid decisions over the last few years but we are not the only ones. It's a money business and a billionaires playground. In the grand scheme of things, financially we are now competing with the bottom half of the championship. This will be our level going forward unless a billionaire buys us or football as a whole goes bust.

Unfortunately, that’s why I think the club would now accept low bids for players. It’s as much about slashing the wage bill as it is making cash from transfers. unclesmog 53 337
Look on the bright side, at least we'll get a Netflix series out of this mess, a la Sunderland.

Yep, reducing the running costs of the club as close to our revenue as possible going forward, a lot of these big player contracts will expire soon at least. Jamie-H 1,322 4.8k
I mean it's not exactly Mowbray era stuff we have a 32 year old GK we could probably get 10 million for, flog Braithwaite and his wages for a discounted 6ish million there's 2 high earners gone and 16 million in the bank. If it was as bad as made out any sane business would sell those kind of assets as soon as they could the main problem I'm assuming is our half a million a week wage bill, all staff included it's probably closer to a million. Armster 29 4.4k
but will letting a few tealadies and stewards go really dent the deficit that much? sell any bitpart player/mercenary and let the people keep their jobs. so much of being a community club... LinoJo3 7,799 16k
From what I remember the club said ticket/merchandise sales fund the stadium and training ground running costs. it could be more to do with falling revenue in those areas meaning the running costs have to come down to match it. Mate, our wage bill alone is higher than all of our revenue put together.
Lurker 3,136 1.7k
The redundancies etc happen at all clubs. As a business you always need to look at savings. It started well into last year when behind the scenes you had some of the younger staff being promoted. Seems they're doing a decent job of it as well. Brought in Take That and already have a few pencilled in for next summer. It's not as bad as the picture being painted.

Of course they happen at all clubs because football clubs across the board are run terribly. They aren't doing it because they always need to look for savings, they are doing it because of the situation the club has put themselves in. At least I have a better sense of where you are getting your information from now I suppose.

I'd say it's just as bad if not worse when you factor in our wage bill.
