Fletcher doesn't track back because he's pressing up the field, once you beat the press ofc your defence is exposed. You either want them pressing up the pitch or sitting compact as a unit, you can't have it both ways.

Exactly, the team has to work as a unit. If the wide forward is pressing, the next man along should occupy the space to cover the full back.

Will take us at least 10 games to iron out the issues

It has been so quiet. Quite worrying with less than a week to go

I still wouldn’t put much faith in Johnson, we played Luton where he was up against players more his level, let’s not forget he was at sheff Utd most of last season and barely got a look in so he can’t really get the ‘ah but pulis’ excuse either.

With the comments about Fletcher not assisting Coulson I think that put additional pressure on Shotton, causing him to be 'caught between two stools' on occasions, in addition to not being a naturally left-sided player?

Well they didn't play wingers so he has that excuse too ? no one's saying we can hang our hat on him this season but he will be useful.

Agreed, especially the left sided point.

I mean he was on course for that with us if he was a starter and he got no real service...

His best return at this level is 12 in a good season, I think that's about right for Hugill. He didn't get much luck or service for us and will do alright at QPR, just not the right fit for us

Agreed with most on here, Shotton was awful too weak for a big lad and passing is useless. Offload him to Birmingham, West Brom ect. I would rather play young Wood. The sooner we sign Dijksteel and another winger the better. Browne looked good when he came on and wing was class. UTB

Think we will concede a lot of goals this season from set pieces. Hopefully Dijksteel signs as he is 6”2. We only had Ayala, Shotton (?), and McNair with any decent height.

A winger and a right-back is enough for us to get by I think.

But do think if we want to improve on top of that the centre back area needs attention and another wide player.

Judging by today we will concede loads from set pieces if we sign Dijksteel ?

I agree as otherwise as Luton did play a long ball down the flank to Mcmanaman and all of a sudden we're exposed as the rest of the team's pressed up the pitch.

I am hoping for 4 incomings this window as a minimum.

RB

CB

2 pacy forwards.

I dont think that is being greedy. I see mfc website have bulked out the first team squad with a few youngsters but we have a really thin squad. I am not sure if Liddle or Malley are in Woodgates thinking this season or if they can play CDM but if Clayton gets crocked or banned I think we definitely need cover there.

I hope its a really busy week for us.

    • There are no positives, if we do get relegated we would get rid of the high earners but we would be offered a lot less for the players than their market value, beggars can't be choosers. Season ticket prices would have to fall, but fans may start to think the chairman  has pulled their pants down once to often so I  see a fan backlash. I think it would be a complete financial disaster, and who honestly would want to invest financially into a club where the owner has shown how incompetent he is  time and time again. We would struggle to come back up we should be a lot better than this, its criminal that we have to talk about it but its a possibility..
    • If you get it right in League One by creating a winning mentality and smashing the league it creates a certain environment and positive feeling around the club. Look at modern day Leicester, Norwich, Bournemouth and how the foundations built in League One propelled them up the leagues. Personally based on the current structure of the club and the decisions of the last 5 years relegation for us would be an absolute disaster as the gap between Championship and Premier League grows. You get it wrong and you end up like Sunderland, Blackpool, Ipswich or a Portsmouth destined to remain a lower league club without significant investment
    • Middlesbrough vs QPR (H) The year is 2012, the headlines read:   "Queens Park Rangers have sacked manager Neil Warnock after a run of eight Premier League games without a win. The 63-year-old took charge at Loftus Road in March 2010 and led Rangers to promotion last season, but leaves with them lying 17th in the top flight."   Neil is left to stew in a fit of rage: after catapulting QPR into the Premier League, he's been sacked halfway through the next season before he could even recover from his new years hangover! He begins plotting his elaborate revenge, after 8 years and 6 (largely irrelevant) jobs later he finally has the chance to prove himself by keeping a relegation threatened team in the league, whilst doing it against the team that didn't believe he had that survival instinct in him. This is the story of Neil Warnock's redemption!   Matchday Information Sunday 2pm brings us a do or die clash as Warnock’s Boro failed to keep some momentum going against fellow basement dwellers Hull, the hiring of Warnock has failed to arrest the slump in matchday ticket sales as the attendance is staying steady around the 0 mark. We have home advantage for this, if that still makes a difference… After being excited about football starting again, I am now equally excited for football to be finished again. With QPR having nothing to play for - losing all 3 of their fixtures since the return - can we take advantage of their bad form and seemingly indifferent performances? The good news is that at this end of the table one positive result will give us a massive amount of breathing room.   The Reverse Fixture Earlier on in the season – We played to a 2-2 draw in a period of 10 games without a win. We’ll all be hoping that the Hull game isn't the start of a similar run of results. There’s only so many teams left who can let us off the hook by going into administration.   Injuries Both sides have a clean bill of health for this one.   View from the Opposition https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/forum/260261/middlesbrough-sunday/#27   Questions Score predictions for this one? Lineups for the game? Will Warnock keep us safe? Will he be here next year if he does? Do we even deserve to stay up if we rely on other teams being handed points deductions? Do you prefer to have your Saturday ruined or your Sunday ruined?
    • Totally agree, we simply stopped after the equaliser and somehow the players did not see what we were in that Hull were there for the taking.
    • That is a very valid point about crowds and probably overlooked by many of us, I beileve that we simply can not afford to go down plain and simple
