Settle down children and I'll begin...   Twas the night before Luton, when all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a Mejias. A blank kit was packed by the kit

Would you prefer to go back to 11 men behind the ball at all times?   Honestly, I don’t get some fans on here. Complain game after game last season about the negativity. Play open, positive,

One for the season. If we are struggling to score and a camera shot of Robbie Keane "They could do with someone like him in their team now"

Randolph - 6
Howson - 6
Ayala - 7
Shotton - 3
Coulson - 6
Wing - 7
Clayts - 6
McNair - 6
Johnson - 7
Britt - 6
Fletch - 6

Browne - 6
Saville - n/a

I could have gave full-backs 5s but as others have said, it's more the tactical side of things. That's got to come with time, it's a team thing and we need to get it right as a team to avoid those players being so stretched. Coulson hasn't had to deal with the physical aspects of it yet but certainly on the ball going forward, he looked better, as did Howson in his own way.

Gave Ayala a 7 simply because he's got to have some credit when his partner has had such an awful game. Shotton's distribution and defending was woeful tonight, rather than just the former. I was going to say we desperately need to replace him in this team but considering the transition we're going through, we can make do for now to allow Fry time to come back. I wouldn't say we're under threat of getting relegated for keeping him in there.

I knew Britt would send that ball to the moon... Just knew it. He should never take a penalty again. If we end up in a penalty shoot out, I would sub him, so he doesn't have to be the 11th shooter, if the game goes like that Liverpool cup game a few years back ?

I am still optimistic. We will sort the defence with a new signing and the return of the Fry...

When Bola is up to speed, I would play him as FB and then move Coulson to LM .. He is a brilliant attacking player and he can help the fullback too, when needed. He himself didn't get any defensive help from Fletccher today and Luton doubled up on poor Coulson...

Shitton can *** off

Enjoyed it... love the high press when we get it right..little bit open at times but we knew that was the way woody wants to play. Had plenty of chances but for our first competitive game and for a club that has had monotonous footy for last few years I'm not gonna complain. Few signings to bolster the ranks.

Refreshing hearing Woody back Britt on the radio there, must be good for Britt to hear too

"No blame on him at all. He's my 9, he's gonna score goals"

Exactly what I was gonna post, what a beautiful thing this is to hear after last season.

Far too open for me. Defence a massive concerning. We looked bright going forward though which was pleasing

Honestly, I don’t get some fans on here. Complain game after game last season about the negativity. Play open, positive, attacking football tonight and all I’m seeing is “far too open”, “full backs too high up the pitch”, etc etc.

Defensively we were naive, 100%, but we are playing with a right back as a centre back, a central midfielder at right back, and arguably a winger at left back. Get Fry, Bola and Dijksteel in that back line and we will look much more secure.

At at the end of the day, if Britt concentrates more on the ball and less on imitating Paul Pogba, we win away from home on the opening day, having scored 4 goals.

As it is, it’s massively frustrating but I’d take that any day over the crap we had to put up with last season.

And did I see someone slating Clayton? Seriously?

This was a proper game of football and was a pleasure to watch Boro play tonight not a slog like it was under Pulis. They is the elements of a promotion winning side on this performance as it was a makeshift team at the end of the day. Next week when hopefully Boro recruite a RB, winger's and CB or Fry returns Boro will be alot stronger. Atleast this performance should attract potential loan players to want to come to the Boro as we've shown we'll play attacking football which we simply didn't under Pulis and turned signings such as Bolaise away from signing last season.

What a game!

lets all remember - this was game 1 of a hugely transitional year.

+ves

passion - fans, manager, coaches and players

i loved hearing woodgates name sung repeatedly. He’s proud, he’s one of us and he’s our manager.  We must get behind him and we did.

randolph - looked a little rusty but he’s missed most of pre season. Still showed his class at times - wonderful save from Collins.

Coulson was a plus. He’s not our number 3 for 46 games but he’s going to be a great squad player this year and with the right coaching can continue to make great progress this year.

high press (at times) was good to see.  It’s game 1 using it.  Let’s judge after 30.
2nd half - yes we gave away a sloppy goal at the end but we were massively improved. So maybe someone in that dresisng room is getting a message across. Let’s hope it’s mainly woody, with some coaches and some players thrown in to it.

number of touches in opponents box. Almost as many as last season in total ???

-ves

some sloppy mistakes

shotton unfortunately isn’t going to be good enough in that role.

fletcher (thought he had one of his best games) but he’s still a worry long term

if we go into the season with the mentality that we are prepared to give the manager and coaches time and if we end up 12th we end up 12th the it’ll be a great season.  It takes time - let’s judge him in 2021 providing we seen small signs of progress along the way.
