Boro v Luton Town (A) 3-3 (Fletcher, Assombalonga, Wing)

Given we still have areas to strengthen - including those areas we struggled in tonight - I'm overall feeling positive. But I'll be cursing that penalty miss for the rest of the weekend.

Once we get the defence sorted out we will be top half. I would have took a point before the game hard place to go to. But Britt should have won it for us so dissapointed.

Well was a good game. Point away on opening day is not too bad. Was there for taking but not to worry. Some good stuff. Utb

Definitely something to build on I think. A few games in the defence should sharpen up, especially once Shotton is removed from the back line

If we can sort out our defence I’ll be happy.

Ayala had a good game. Coulson will do well for us. Shotton is an absolute liability.

I know we were the away team but will be happier if we can control the game more in midfield.

probably only 1 first choice defender playing in Ayala.. so hopefully things will tighten up once Fry is back and we buy an RB

hope to never see shotton in a boro shirt ever again.

honestly never seen a worse defender in all my life, he can't pass ,can't defend literally the definition of useless

Annoying ref, blew tons of niggly fouls for them.

Shotton is absolute cack.

Wing is a God.

At least we were positive. Need some more quality in this team though.  Thought Woody should have made earlier subs to the midfield. Wing looked absolutely knackered after his goal.

As soon as britt took the ball I knew he would miss. I wouldn't be surprised to learn he's missed more than he's scored for us. I love him as a goalscorer but weirdly I don't trust him as a penalty taker.

All in all I'll take the point, kenilworth road will be a hard place to go this year. There were enough positives there for me to go away content.

Plenty to learn, plenty to be happier about compared to last year for most, we went for it, we struggled against a team with a lot of belief there clearly. Very early days, I'm looking forward to the first match at the Riverside this season. It could have been worse, draw is probably a reasonable result for both teams given we got a penalty we shouldn't have and they didn't get a penalty they should have (in my view, anyway). Neutral would have loved that game, was pretty much all action, lots of goals, game swung from us, to them, to us, to a draw. Thank God football is back.

After watching this I'd like another CB who could come in as a starter. Ayala and Fry are decent but Shotton was dreadful and I don't want to see Friend there.

Johnson man of the match for me

Britt puts the penalty away Lutons heads would have dropped, shits of a penalty, disappointed we haven't taken all 3 points. We must have a better penalty taker than him. I wish some bugger would buy Shotton.

    • Fletcher he has grown on me this season. That said theres been a fair few games recently where he has ball watched or jumped for a header knowing he was nowhere near it. When we had our mini revival though he looked a good player he battled and held up the ball well and could see theres a decent player there. But if hes not on his game hes like a rabbit in the headlights. However I dont see him as the guy who will score the goals to win promotion or save you from relegation which we really need him to be right now.
    • He was NOT the fans choice. He was Gibson's choice and it was pretty clear before he was appointed that we did not want him as a manger or head coach. Our concerns were completely dismissed then, and are still being dismissed. This is not down to unrealistic expectations. Most have been highlighting a mid-table finish as what should be achievable with the players we have and now simply want to stay in the Championship - both of which would have been realistic under a manger with a basic level of competence.  People gave Woody time (way more time than they would have given anyone else) but that does not mean he was our choice.
    • Who’s knows where we’d be if Roberts didn’t get injured and McNair took away that penna...
    • It’s a loss in the sense that now Coulson will probably go back to Lb.  That essentially gets rid of any pace and attacking threat from the forwards.
