The Saudi takeover of Newcastle has fallen through. I know football sold its soul a long time ago, but I'm glad we won't be adding Saudis to the list of foreign owners whose presence besmirches the Premier League.

Also, 97 per cent of skunks fans wanted the deal to go through. So by my calculations, 97 per cent of them will be disappointed. Which is a bonus!

They're all blaming the Premier League, Twitter is pretty *** funny right now!

The sad thing for these giants is that there is still only one club in the northeast that has actually lifted a trophy and been to a European final this century........name's on the tip of my tongue,

What about Hartlepool and Darlington?

Surely the same could be said for Newcastle and Sunderland?

I actually would love to see them get into the Championship. Darlo especially as they've got a nice, relatively new stadium. Reckon they could get the crowds to sustain them in the 2nd tier. No idea about 'Pool though.

But it would be a laugh with all the "monkey hanger" jokes / chants that would surely get aired off again.

Anyway, back on topic, I have to confess I developed a soft spot for the Toon during Benitez's time in charge. Also feel sorry for them for having an owner like Ashley.

Sunderland I'm fairly ambivalent about - though another North East team in the Championship can't be a bad thing. Derby matches always come with extra spice (unlike matches against Derby)!

Hahaha magpie's are fumming they aren't gonna be the next Mancity.

They could yet be the next Man Utd though (US consortium possibly waiting in the wings to put in a bid).

I understand the temptation, but sympathy is undeserved. They're the most deluded fans in the country, thinking they should be in the Champions League every season and sneering at anyone with a smaller stadium capacity.

Look at the wailing and gnashing of teeth at the moment - adjectives like "heartbroken", "destroyed", "catastrophic" being hurled around, when all that's happened is one despotic owner has decided not to buy them off another. Ashley was made for NUFC, in the same way the porn barons seem a perfect match for West Ham.

Its a shame really, as the Geordies I've actually met have been perfectly nice people.

But then you read the Have Your Say comments section on the BBC when they do an article on Newcastle and your brain just melts.

I have no preference to who buys which team or for what reason. The reason I say so is because there are many foreign owners from many different countries and none can claim to be honest or clean. For that matter how many owners are?

The skunks don’t deserve a owner willing to spend its way to glory because all they do is winge when they get who they want as manager and winge when they don’t. Its a fan base who think they are owed and demand a big club status because of its fan base and if not for its location may well have been, but they are up North and location is everything to players so they need to suck it up and accept there position. A struggling club with a bunch of winging skunks. Let’s hope it stays that way because who else can we wind up.

My mates a Geordie and I was pleased to congratulate him on the collapsed take over. Just the way it is I’m afraid
