Introduction.  Welcome to BearSmog's first matchday thread of the 2019/2020 Championship season. I must warn you, if you are not a fan of GIFs I recommend you look away now, the opening post of t

Well talk about a day that had so much mixed emotions for a 6 year old lad attending his first Boro game. Whilst his dad waited to pay for the tickets I took Teddy into the club shop coming out £

Ok so before this game I genuinely thought we'd lose or draw which goes against our historically good home record and Brentford's awful away record but we did perform better than I thought we would.

This is how I see it, think the cup game might be our first opportunity to see them all starting at once.

Think the cup game will be a good time to throw the new signings in from the start as you say.

Just purely out of interest I'd like to see how McNair or Howson would cope in Clayton's position and role. Before I get mobbed, I don't think they would be any better at the moment than Clayton, but would, as an experiment like to see how they would cope.

Dijksteel has had a full season and played 90 mins last weekend. It's not like he lacks any fitness and slotting in at RB shouldn't be the most difficult thing to do. It shouldn't take long to understand the role and it's not like Howson and the others already have a full understanding of how to play and interact in the new system. I'd be more comfortable with a specialist RB in there,

I'd start Dijksteel, no reason not to really, he should just slot straight in.

This. He started for Charlton last week so he's fit. I want our specialist RB in the team as soon as possible, especially against teams with very good wingers.

Agree with Will, we need to be fielding the best line of defence available to Woodgate due to their threat, Though I hope we do not respect them too much as we are at home. The Riverside needs to be a special place for our team.

Randolph

Dijksteel Ayala Friend Coulson

Howson Clayton Wing

Johnson Assombalonga Browne

I don’t think Fletcher didn’t offer as much as Johnson against Luton. Browne looked more dangerous in his cameo role than Fletcher too.

I’m a fan of Howson in midfield too.

I think Friend will certainly help Coulson's positional play too

If anyone is going to the 6 Medals or the new outside bar at the ground please do come over and say hello.

Just look for a little lad with Teddy printed on the shirt and you will find us.

Looking forward to the whole day

Will he be sporting the patented Shotton dreadlocks too?

It'll be interesting to see the attendances tomorrow. Have we gained or lost supports after getting rid of Pulis, promoting Woodgate and trimming the squad by not making any big signings but instead having a vastly different tactic. There must be plenty of people interested in seeing the team after opening the season with a 3-3. What a roller coaster season we had last time that happened. Let's hope for an opposite outcome this time ?

I think it will be the same team as Luton, but I'd like to see Friend for Shotton and Djiksteel for Howson.

I want to see Browne starting, but I don't think Woodgate can justify dropping Johnson or Fletcher yet.

I think Bola will come in for Coulson at some point, as I don't think Coulson seems that brilliant defensively.

I think dropping Fletcher or Johnson after good performances would hurt squad morale in the long run. Especially Fletcher, last year when he got a run of games he really started to get to grips with Championship football, he's basically a youth player at this stage with the complete lack of first team football in his career.
