Erimus74 2,977 Posted December 10, 2019 Author Share Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) Boro flashback 10th December 1988 Boro were back in the 1st division & going well, 2 home defeats so far was testament to the progress we were making as a club going forward, Bruce Rioch had us playing excellent, passing football & this game was certainly the case, he spoke in the morning papers before the game that due to the recent history of Boro v Villa games this one should have been the live match & my was he right, it certainly lived up to it Villa went in to a 2 goal lead, Boro drew level with goals from Mark Brennan his 3rd goal of the season & Gary Hamilton with his 2nd, then, bang, Tony Mowbray scored what we thought would be the winner, from 2 nil down we are 3-2 up & looking formidable going forward, Bernie Slaven thought he had put us 4-2 up but the linesman's flag was up & the goal wrongly disallowed We were to suffer for the linesmans error, as not long from the end Mcanally pushed Cooper out the way & shot past Stephen Pears to bring the scores level Boro 3 Villa 3, what a game Bruce's team Stephen Pears Gary Parkinson Colin Cooper Tony Mowbray Gary Hamilton Gary Pallister Stuart Ripley Mark Brennan Dean Glover Peter Davenport Mark Burke Sub No12 Bernie Slaven Sub No14 Alan Kernaghan Edited December 10, 2019 by Erimus74 Link to post Share on other sites

Erimus74 2,977 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Share Posted December 14, 2019 Boro flashback this day back in 1974 On the 14th December Tom Patterson made his one & only Boro 1st team appearance when the Boro entertained Birmingham at Ayresome Park Reserve player Alan Willey had made 8 appearences as CF, 4 of those starting, big Jack was trying out Patterson, who was performing well for the reserves, to challenge AW if Boro legend John Hickton misses a game Back to the Birmingham game, Patterson started this game in place of Alan Willey Boro won 3-0 with an attendance of 23,737 seen goals from Alan Foggon, a John Hickton penalty & a page OG Boro had played 3 home games in 7 days, Ipswich Town saturday, Leicester City midweek & Birmingham, all 3 teams played in identical blue strip & all 3 left with the identical goals defeat Alan Foggon had scored in all 3 games Bobby Murdoch made a return to the starting line up after missing 3 games Big Jacks named team Jim Platt John Craggs Frank Spraggon Graeme Souness Stuey Boam Willie Madden Bobby Murdoch John Hickton Tom Patterson Alan Foggon Davey Armstrong Sub-Malcolm Smith Link to post Share on other sites
