He ended up almost getting himself an early bath due to his frustration. I think he started getting frustrated at the officiating too. He got absolutely wiped out from behind early on and nothing was given and it was from there that he really seemed to start flying into everything, but I may just be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5.

I must have counted at least 3 handballs by Wigan that were not penalised or spotted, even though twice the lino was on the right side. Plus the Fletcher and Johnson penalty appeals, which weren't given, but then surely if it was a dive both players should have been booked? Then the countless 50/50's that always fell in their favour. And the obvious fouls missed. I remember Fletcher cleanly winning the ball from behind off their 5 or 8 (I can't remember which one exactly) on the halfway line and the ref penalised us for it?! It's at times like that when you genuinely wonder whether they're playing a fair game or if the referee really is just absolute dog-***.

I've said in the past that these things even themselves out, so they better start evening out soon as the last 2 home games have been awful for officials!

That fletcher one I mentioned during the game. He stole in from behind and nicked the ball with zero contact and the wigan player just crumpled to the ground, I think they realised the ref was being very generous to them. I dont remember the johnson penalty appeal but the fletcher one on the single angle we had on red button just looked like a super tackle rather than a dive.

Yeah think Wigan very quickly knew how to play the referee last night. I wasn't suggesting that they were definitely penalties, as in my opinion at the time they both looked like dives. But it does beg the question as to why no booking were made. I suppose if the referee saw both as good tackles and nothing more that would explain why he didn't card them. Brunners 7,982
Yeah, like I said I can't talk about the Johnson one, but my gut reaction is he just thought the fletcher one was a good tackle. Limited viewpoint from the single angle we had though so it's difficult to truly say one way or the other. Also despite how badly we played at times we still had two corners cleared off the line, britt made the wrong decision on a great passage of play, another time he had a great run and forced the keeper into a save (again difficult angle to know if he should have done better) and fletcher got in behind a number of times in the second half, just bad decision making / finishing on his part last night.

Yeah until I watch the game back it will be difficult to definitely say whether it was one thing or another.

The only nailed on starters at this point for me are Randy, Fry, McNair, and Howson. Anyone else is changeable.
wilsoncgp 9,283
I think the Johnson one was outside the box, if it's the one I'm thinking of. And yeah, if indeed he thought that wasn't a foul, it was a dive and I still can't get my head around why refs don't book players more often in those situations. I don't know if it's just that they can't judge entirely the thought process of the player when going down so more often than not refuse to act? Or God forbid thought it was a fair tackle? DanFromDownSouth 1,706
@wilsoncgp Johnson one was 2nd half. I think it was when he was at lwb. He had cut inside into the box. Looked like he went down very easily.

I remember one where he was on the left wing in between the box and the touchline and he went over when the full-back came in behind him, there was nobody else around them really. We might be thinking about different situations if he'd actually cut into the box for yours.
BillinghamBoro 229
To be honest, I'm just happy for the win. The performance last night was turgid and I think a few guys sat around me said "if I was a Wigan fan id be feeling a bit robbed" and to be fair I agreed wholeheartedly, we stole a goal and got the 3 points, but not going to complain. I'm still not entirely sure about what we're trying to do on the pitch though? I've lost count of how many times I've seen us look so disjointed and erratic at the back up to the midfield. One win isn't enough to change my opinion about how poor we've been, but again, if we can pick up more 3 points playing poorly, I'll take them. Oh also big side note, has anyone ever seen Keith Stroud have a good game when refereeing us? Seems like he's got something major against us.
estonpidge 1,449
Thought the 90 minutes Wigan had prepping for the game (according to the sky Muppet) was on diving techniques as every time we went near them they flicked their legs in the air and went down. I feel that we may end up playing the Wolves sort of 352 until we can get the personnel in to change over completely.

It was outside the box from memory though. I remember remarking to my dad that usually I wouldn't consider it a foul but in context of everything else the ref had given I was a bit annoyed that one didn't qualify. Was just another one of the inconsistent decisions he made.
